    I have the same issue, I have replaced everything on this engine and still it wont start without either. But only difference is , once mine starts, I can shut it down and it will fire back up on its own. When it sits overnight, it need a little puff to start.

    I have no idea where it came from,it was on it when I got the truck. It works ok when it's getting fuel. The green paint on it looks like a Detroit diesel color.

    Found the problem ! called around to try and find a Motorcraft fuel pump. There is none, this side of the Mississippi. So, next best thing , I go to Napa and buy a Carter pump. I installed the pump, hooked the hard line to the pump. The fuel tank on this truck has a ball valve on the underside...

    I did a oil change and started to check around the FSS. Found the connectors were not very tight. I decided to open up the FSS and found the FSS was working BUT has 3 cracks in it.     I think I have that issue corrected. I change my oil and filter, removed the old sender , put a Tee in and installed a new sender AND a manual gauge. showing 50lbs now.

    Starter motor just spins , no bendix engagement. What starters are recommended ?? Motorcraft starters are made in china and I refuse to buy anything from china. I'll go without first.

    All that stuff is brand new and it does spin very quickly. Still have to crank at least 10 seconds. it's got to be fuel. once it starts , it will start first lick every time. let it sit a 1/2 hour , it take 5 second to start, let it sit 5 hours . it takes 10 seconds to start

    I also just put all new return lines and o rings and there are no leaks anywhere. This truck doesnt have a stock fuel tank, I guess because it's a wrecker and theres no room for it underneath. The fuel tank sits on top of the body and is silver in the avatar to the left.
