'85 6.9 DIESEL OIL LEVEL MEASUREMENT ON DIP STICK?

thanks, guys for the good tips. As soon as I can afford the oil for my truck I'll use them. Oil products, along with fuel have gone crazy. All of us diesel owners are getting the shaft but good.

'85 6.9 DIESEL OIL LEVEL MEASUREMENT ON DIP STICK?

@Austin86250 Thanks, but I already know that. My bracket won't allow me to hold the dipstick tube in the proper angle to keep it in the hole nor will it allow the tube to thread around the exhaust manifold without falling out. The O ring doesn't help. All I need is the measurement of the oil...

'85 6.9 DIESEL OIL LEVEL MEASUREMENT ON DIP STICK?

My 85 F350 6.9 diesel engine lost its oil dipstick so I can't measure the oil without getting under the truck and putting a backup dipstick down the hole in the block. I have no idea if the original dipstick touches the bottom of the oil pan or not, but I push my backup dipstick in until it...

    6.9 idi wiring harness

Get ready to have lots of fun. Fords are notorious for shorting out. Most shorts are at the fuse box. I have mine all torn out and have been trying to find an entire wire harness for YEARS. No luck at any price. You will be better off just making your own leading to each item separately. I'm...

    1985 F250 6.9 short to ground

So I'm not the only one with my dash torn out. These trucks are notorious for having electrical shorts and burned wires and fuse boxes. I've been working on mine for YEARS and still haven't figured out my problems. Searched forever for the factory wiring diagram. Finally found copies of the...

Critical safety warning: Hot Shots fuel additives products

Riphip, That's not true, but people still believe it. Maybe it's just comforting to have someone piss on you. It is warm. Of course you could eat some asparagus first then piss on it. The smell would kill just about anything. LOL

    Glow Plug Controller Broke Off!

Well, first of all I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has had these problems. I bought my '85 F350 from a nasty old farmer in North Idaho about 20 years ago. He lied about the Turbo being a Banks so I took him to court twice and won each time. Got a hunk of money back. Hauled my 34 foot...

    Remove injectors without removing pump?

If you disconnect your hard lines from your injectors BE VERY CAREFUL to NOT change the angle of the threaded nut that attaches to the injectors or you may cross thread them when you re-attach them. It's a very costly mistake. Re-attach them using fingers (no wrenches to get them started!) If...

    Fuel mileage.

Saburai, I understand that issue. My 85 F350 takes forever to fill either tank because they both vent poorly. That, and the fact that today's fuel pumps shoot fuel so fast that the pump handle keeps clicking off repeatedly even when the tank is not close to being full. None of the 'notches' on...

    Fuel mileage.

Mileage is variable depending on how YOU drive. What kind of driving...highway or city. Where you drive sea level, mountains, up hills, towing, hauling loads. Between fillups notice the load in your truck. Fill up the tank (up the filler neck until you can see fuel) Fuel pumps will shut off at...

    Injector lines barely spitting fuel

I recently replaced my injectors, glow plugs, got a re-built injector pump and all soft fuel lines between injectors. I found that some of my hard lines between the IP and the injectors were plugged up when I blew in them. Cleaned them out with PB Blaster and compressed air. Check them for blockage.

Looking for help in Fresno Ca

I would be inclined to think that the truck is not timed correctly because the IP was removed and possibly re-installed incorrectly. Also, were the IP hard fuel lines from the pump to the injectors run to the correct injectors?

    ""Need advice desperately!!!""

Selahdoor If he did what I suggested the bottom remnant of the plugs wouldn't 'blow out' because the top of the remnant of the bad plugs would still be in the glow plug hole to maintain compression.

    ""Need advice desperately!!!""

Tim T I have a 1985 F350 6.9 dually crewcab About 20 years ago my glow plugs stayed on and burnt up. Probably that controller issue stated above. I didn't know much about diesels when I first got this one so I learned along the way. Because I was on a trip and basically far from cities in...

new ip and injectors now wont start

If you have a Schrader valve (like a tire valve) on the fuel filter you can loosen the stem in it (you need a valve tool to do this) and put a cup under it to catch any fuel that comes out while you BRIEFLY crank the engine without waiting for the glow plugs to get hot. This will get the air out...

    In case of EMP

@nelstomlinson Had the same problem back in the 90s in a 1972 Dodge Polara my dad willed to me. I was up in the top of Yosemite backpacking alone. When I got back to the car the electromagnetic clutch was squaking badly and finall seized. A ranger called the gas station in the valley and a big...

Guess the source of my Knock

Just something to consider...I have a 6.9 diesel in a 1985 F350. I started hearing a thumping noise that I thought was a bearing going bad. A mechanic listened to it and said it was a bad injector. I had my injectors rebuilt (cleaned and pop tested) had two cracked sleeves on the injectors. I...

    Electrical connector ID help...please..

See my post above yours. I took and entire wiring harness out of a truck in a junk yard hoping to replace mine that shorted out. I found that it had some burned areas in the fuse box so I just unwrapped it to see where all the wires went to trace them using the wiring diagram I bought (as...
