Hi Folks,
I'm in the market for a new IP and am looking for recommendations for suppliers that you would do business with again or maybe not. There are so many places to get parts these days and it's hard to know who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.
TIA,
Jim

Hi folks,
Foul weather and scheduling conflicts when the weather was nice has dragged this project on MUCH longer than I'd like. So I'm getting one side completed and the instructions I found online state that I should "coat the axle shaft bolt threads with waterproof sealant and install...
Update
Hi guys... quick update... started with this and this . Got everything apart and cleaned up the backing plate . The emergency brake system is just one rusted blob so I have that soaking overnight. Skies were looking like rain so I closed up for the night. I'll see if I can get that...
Well, I have VERY limited time this weekend to work on this project :( But I had about an hour before it got dark tonight... Just came in from trying the inverted axle shaft as slide hammer trick. Worked like a charm. As I was removing the passanger side drum/hub together 'cause they were...
Very cleaver slide hammer! I'll try that!
Thanks for the tip... This site is great!
I'm hoping to make it to the IDI gathering and meet some of you great folks!
Jim
Well, it's very clear in the instructions to use the puller and it shows a diagram of it also... And mine will not come off. So I'm thinking they are right. Maybe yours is a different model?
Jim
Wow! I just remembered that Autozone has repair guides online! They are very cool for this job. If anyone is interested in pulling the hubs on a Ford 10.25 inch integral carrier, full-floating rear drive axle check this out...
Well, I'm not here to argue, I'm here to learn. So that many people can't be wrong and what the heck, it can't hurt! So I'll pack them. But before I can even get that far I have to figure out how to get the hubs off. I've removed the nut with the special nut tool and removed the outer...
Hmmmmm.... it's not getting hung up on the drum because the other side which has the drum removed won't come off either. Any thoughts on what is holding the hub on? It's loose and wobbles around but won't slide off...
Jim
Well, I went out and bought the tool. You can also see the removed locking nut and bearing there too. Is that all there is to remove before the drum/hub comes off? Mine doesn't want to come off. I'm suspecting I'll need to back off the shoes a bit. The must be hung up on the drum. Anyone...
Yeah, you're probably right Mel. So I went out to survey the damage tonight. I think it was a fear of the unknown... I pulled the passangers side drive shaft. It was a piece of cake. Now of course I need to get those nuts off to remove the hub. Does anyone know if I can rent/borrow one of...
Hmmmmm.... Wish *I* had some help like THAT when I'm working on MY truck! ;) Well, never mind... If I DID, I'd never get any work done!
;)
LOOKS GREAT!!!
Jim
Are the hub seals replacable without removing the axle?
Also, I hadn't put the eight bolts that hold the hub on back on because I wanted to find out what type of locktite they used and if it was necessary.... with all the pounding on the drums the hubs have *rotated*. Are they spring...
One is loose!!
Progress! Three days of Kroil/tapping with a mallet has popped the driver's side drum! Still working on the passanger's side. Upon inspection of the driver's side shoes they are coated in *some* type of liquid. Not sure if it's brake fluid caused by a bad wheel cylinder...
Okay... that being said... I noticed that the 8 bolts I already took off had locktite or similar on the threads... Any idea what it was for sure? And a torque value so I can torque them back on??
Good new for me guys! I did NOT want to take that whole darned axle out!
;)
Thanks!
Jim
Hmmmmm... That doesn't seem possible from looking at them... but I've never done this job on this truck before... But the drum would have to slip over the eight lug nuts... I would be suprised if that were the case. But I soaked them in some kroil so I'll let them soak while others chime in...
Rear Brakes
Roland,
I got through removing the axle retaining nuts. I'm assuming these are the eight bolts that you can see even with the wheel on...
http://my.execpc.com/~jslash/F350/rearbrakedrum.jpg
But it doesn't want to slide out... Should I apply a "little" force?
Jim
Hi folks,
I just posted this over on the "other site" but thought I might get more help over here... Here's a re-post...
Jim
Well, seems to be the season for fuel tank issues! I'm just trying to get my midship tank back together. Got new lines between the crossover switch and the...
