Oil Burning -- A potentail easy fix

My 7.3 has been seeing less miles over the last several years, and a lot of those have been short trips. And lately the oil burning has been about 1 qt per 1000 miles. So I figured that maybe the rings were sticking -- And decided to try adding a couple pints of Amsoil engine flush (FLSH) then...

7.3 GP connector fixed with heat shrink

Here's a cheap fix for the nylon part of the GP connectors when they get hard, brittle, and deteriorate. It's a commonly available thick-wall heat shrink with adhesive inside. Good for 230 Deg F (110 C). Did this last year and it's holding up well.

    20.1 MPG (1682 miles / 83.8 gallons US)

Just home from some back-country camping and exploring in Death Valley. Great trip, no problems. 1682 paved highway miles / 83.8 gallons = 20.07 MPG. There's been a few individual tanks that calculated a hair better, but this is a new personal long trip record. There's no special mods --...

Test data: starter and glow amps

Thought this data might be interesting -- No problems, just checking some test equipment. It's starter amperage, cranking voltage, and glow plug amperage. Test data is from a 1988 7.3L with Mitsubishi starter, Ford glow plugs, and NAPA glow controller. Initial conditions, battery 12.54 V...

I have some 6.9/7.3 tools to sell...

I hate selling tools, but it's hard to justify duplicates. These fit all the 6.9/7.3 IDI engines. $75 (or trade?) plus shipping for tools in the pic. Part number/descriptions are below. Might be able to meet for a burger and skip shipping if you're near Oregon City. T83T-6316A Crank / Cam...

    Blackstone Lab report

New to oil analysis, and giving it a try. Kind of spendy, but interesting. The numbers appear good to me, Blackstone Lab report pdf is below. I'm curious what others think about oil analysis?

18.9 MPG - New personal long trip MPG record!

Just back from a trip to Sacramento, Reno, and Death Valley. 2076 paved road miles and 109.9 gallons = 18.9 MPG average! Plenty of mountain passes, one was over 8000 FT. Worst section was 16.8 MPG. The best run was 540 miles straight on I-5 -- 20.5 MPG. The off-road miles were excluded...

    Oil Filter: 51734XE from PSD

For those using the longer oil filter from the PSD (PowerStroke): How much clearance to the front cross-member do you have at the closest place? Anyone ever get a rub with the longer PSD filter, or have an estimate of how much filter clearance is necessary to account for engine movement...
