Installed electric pump, now no start

Thanks to everyone for their help. I got the truck started tonight, it took some doing, but at least I'm not having to buy a new injector pump. I was surprised at all teh air in there. I thought the e-pumps eiminated the concerns about air in the system, one of the big draws for me. Thanks...

Installed electric pump, now no start

Hey guys. I spent 4 hours getting my electric pump installed. Wire to pump to switch to fuse to battery. Problem is, it didn't prime up at first and like an idiot I started the truck, cause I wasn't sure if it was running or not. The truck drained the fuel filter and then quit running. Worked...

Questions regarding re-wiring glow plug harness...

All this sounds pretty complicated, mostly because youa re building a new harness. I ddi a similar conversion, I repeat my offer to help, Time, I think you have my email and phone #. The solid state controller, measures resistance in the glow plug and determines on time thusly. Your glowplugs...

Best way to remove 8' bed....

It may be less flammable than gas, but you still don't want an open flame around it for too long. Once it hits it's flash pint it goes pretty good. Personally wouldn't thinka cutting torch on sealed fuel tanks would be an issue with a diesel, would not do it with a gasser though.

    Engine install revisited

[Ron, are you surer its leaking from teh heads and not teh valve covers or intake manifold? Head gasket failure is unusual in the 7.3s fromw hat I have read, are you overheating these motors or putting a lot of fuel in them? I'd leave it be and watch closely, when teh coolant starts leaking or...

Headstuds finally arrived (I have an extra set also)

Scotty, you should ahng onto them. You'll definitely be able to help somebody out and get your money back to boot. Those things are nice,a nd we both know its just a matter of time before somebody else is doing head gaskets/turbo. Good luck with yours, J.D.

Ranger 2.3L cranks normally but no start

Ok pulled the spark plug on the back passenger side. No spark, tried grounding it, still no spark. I also noticed that this particular plug was quite loose in the head. At this point, I'm wondering what's up. Even tried a shot of white death into the air intake, didn't even cough. Can smell...

    Starter ?

Is taht why the PSDs take so much longer to start than an IDI? Calvin, this info sounds just like what you said about the Nippon-Denso starters, are they and the PSD starter one and the same thing? I'm very happy with my Mistubishi starter, had it in about a year, and had some hard cranks in...

Ranger 2.3L cranks normally but no start

Hey, I finally got my ranger engine to turn over. As 95_Stroker and others suggested it was corroded connections causing the trouble. Now it won't fire! This truck ran great, it was my first vehicle and it was only parked because I enjoy driving my IDI more. It started immediately even...

Hey, need help finding new IP return line elbow

Tim, they might know what I mean with that part #. There is another IH dealership in the area, actually one in Orlando and one in Jacksonville, but they are both owned by the same people as the one I go to in Ocala. But thanks for the part#, in any case this will help with IH. They can't do...

Hey, need help finding new IP return line elbow

Well you guys were right on. My hard start is coming from air leaks into the injector pump at the return line. I am using a rednecked elbow at this time and this is probably the cause of the leak. Is there anywhere iI can get a new elbow? IH was no help, the just gave me a bunch of crap that...

    Hard Start Cold

The consensus here seemed to be that it is probably air intrusion, so I have decided to pursue that line of attack...this morning I went to bleed the schrader valve...guess what, lots of air and no fuel at all. Cranked until I had fuel. Gonna go for a start in about 30 minutes to go to work...

    Happy Birthday Mel!

Happy birthday Mel, I've learned a lot of what I know about IDI's from you. You're a great resource and a nice guy.

    Hard Start Cold

The leak that I know about is around where the fuel return line(the big one) goes to teh injector pump. Can't see if there are any more leaks or not.

Lower oil pressure with SAE 30?

WellI posted a few days back about trying SAE30 to improve my wear numbers. I was just going to run it 2K or maybe 2500 miles adn send a sample to Blackstoine and see what they say ro me. I don't know waht's better, I'm trying to figure it out, J.D.

    Hard Start Cold

Well, I'm pretty sure it isn't the glow plugs...they stay on as usual. 10 seconds, remember I have a solid state system..... The truck runs great otherwise, and it isn't that bad to start it cold, just not quick like it should be. Will usually start within 10 seconds of cranking. It starts on...

Lower oil pressure with SAE 30?

Tim, SAE40 is off spec for the IDIs by the book, but that doesn't mean it can't be run obviously..... the reading is coming from where the factory idiot gauge is plugged in, mechanioal gauge along with the same old factory idiot light on a tee

Lower oil pressure with SAE 30?

Yeah....I wonder if this would be expected. With the 15-40, it was 15-20 at hot idle, with the straight 30 it is 11-15 at a hot idle. In both cases, the oil pressure is well over 40 on a cold startup or moving down the road at 2000+ rpm, within specs.... what are you guys with real oil...

    Well...

Or you could just by Hypermax's aneroid pump limiter, which keeps the fuel to stock settings until the turbo spools up. You'd have almost no exhaust smoke then. Maybe this will never be an issue in the U.S. since we don't have as many diesels as Europe. Also, my understanding is that there...

I'am feeling better now price of reg gas is starting to climb

From the last few years I have been paying attention I remember that the price of diesel is obscenely high during the winter and the price of gas is obscenely high during the summer. I rememnber last summer I felt like the smart one in the family when my parents were paying 1.80-2.00/us gallon...

    Well...

Mike, our diesels may be able to at least meet emission requirements that haven't even been thought of yet with biodiesel or the new ultra low sulfur diesel coming in 06. They haven't even regulated antique gas engines and marine 2-strokes out of existence, and I would think our IDI's and the...
