Brown Truck Under the Knife Project - Engine

All this and no time to stop for photos or video? I say pics or it didn't happen! Glad to hear it's all running like it should Ryan

Running light/Tail light problem. HELP with ideas!

Check the harness on the drivers side. I seem to remember you had a temporary "lift" on the cab to remove/install the engine. Perhaps you pinched something or pulled a little too hard and broke the harness while lifting the cab? If it worked before you messed with things, it's likely related...

Importance of thermal re-torque of ARP studs?

I didn't do it on my ARP Studs in the Supra either. I run almost 30psi through that one without issues... Ryan

    ZF5 & Limited Slip Diff

My vote is for conventional Dex III ATF and conventional 80-90 in the diff with the friction modifier. It's what the truck was designed to run on. Ryan

4 in exaust on a idi

I've got a 4" MBRP exhaust on my truck, that was intended for an early powerstroke. you will have to fabricate the part that connects to the downpipe, but the rest works fine. I did have to relocate the front hanger on the frame, but the holes were pre-drilled from the factory so I just moved...

    Rotella vs Delo

I like Delo better myself, but have run both. My truck seems to smoke a little differently when using the Rotella, but it never seems to use much, if any. Ryan

    ABS Light

Check rear speed sensor on top of the differential. Make sure it's plugged in and has a good clean connection. Also, pull the diff cover and inspect the tone ring to see if it has any bent or missing teeth. Usually some metal debris from miles of running will accumulate on the end of the...

    How to set selling price

Given the local market, I doubt I could really get what I need out of this truck. For now, we're still weighing our options, but having a paid-for truck is sure nice. I'll keep kicking tires, and if the right deal comes along, I'll likely keep the old IDI for a while, rather than sell it in a...

    How to set selling price

Justin's right- I'm in Albuquerque, NM. The truck has definitely spent its time in NM. There is a very small rust spot on the bottom rear of the passenger side of the cab, and the clearcoat is peeling on the roof. Both of these blemishes are scheduled to be repaired next week by an excellent...

Brown Truck Under the Knife Project - Engine

Sean- I still lurk around here from time to time...been busy with the new baby in the house and all. You might have noticed my thread on "selling price". The new baby has revealed the main weakness in my truck: The lack of back doors! I may have to sell the old IDI to make room for the...

    How to set selling price

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Its not so much that my wife is dictating what I drive as it is me taking advantage of the chance to get a new truck! I was really hoping to get more like 8-9K, but that's not going to happen on a truck this old, regardless of how nice it is. If the market...

    How to set selling price

So I'm kicking around the idea of selling my beloved IDI. Now before you all go cussing me, let me explain my reasons: We just had a baby girl, and will eventually have another child. The supercab is nice, but we'd really like a 4Door so we can take my truck sometimes. Right now, we pile...

Brown Truck Under the Knife Project - Engine

Sean- Your radiator hose will work, but you need to be sure it's only temporary. You WILL get a fine coating of engine oil in there, especially if you run a CDR. Radiator hose doesn't like engine oil at all, and will get mushy and leaky from the inside out over time. Ryan

    Intercoolers for dummys

I'll chime in with my experiences: I've got the ATS intercooler kit on my truck. I originally had it hooked up to my old non-wastegated 088 kit with some custom ugly piping I made. It worked well, but I couldn't make over 5 psi with that old turbo no matter what I did. It did add a bunch of...

    DPS stage 1 Inj. ?s

    Moose on the loose

You won't be able to use all the fuel the Moose Pump will put out at that altitude. I live at 5200', and am not sure I could use it all. At 9k elevation, you'll roll coal all over your trailer, unless you have a huge turbo cramming air in the engine to match all that fuel. If 90% of your time...

Blocking 2WD trans speedo cable hole?

Get NAPA to match up a freeze plug?? I've never had my eyes on a 2wd to know how the cable hooks up tho... I've used that trick on Toyota trannies that have a gear "holder" that fits into a smooth bore on the trans, and the cable hooks to the gear holder. Ryan

Is that a cassette player? Time for a single DIN conversion and a nice CD/MP3 player! I'm kidding- it looks great! I wouldn't want to go cutting up a pristine factory dash like that either. If you ever get the bug there are several companies that make shaft-style radios with modern AUX/iPod...

    Major Oil Consuption

X2 on replacing the CDR Valve. It's likely stuck open, and your sucking oil vapor right through the turbo and into the intake all the time. 7 quarts seems excessive, but with the turbo "sucking" the vapor, it could happen I guess. Also, not to sight the obvious, but you are checking the oil...
