    Cracked Valve Seats and Pre-Cups

Does anyone have any idea about the chances of acceptable pre-cup cracks becoming unacceptable in the next 100,000 miles or so? Or valve seat cracks, for that matter?

    Cracked Valve Seats and Pre-Cups

Upon inspection, the machine shop says that between both heads there are 7 small cracks in the valve seats and each pre-chamber has multiple small cracks. He says the cracks aren't a super big deal and thinks that it would be hard to find 6.9 heads in better shape. What do you all think?

Ever seen a 6.9 with cavitation problems?

Justin says that he prefers to sleeve all of the idis that he builds as a precaution, even the 6.9s. I respect that he has to build them to a level that he is comfortable putting his name on. I also am very cautious about things that I build in my line of work. But I am curious if anyone anyone...

    4wd swap and RSK questions

I used U-code super duty springs with the shortest RSK kit from PMF. It raised the front about 2 1/4", making the truck sit pretty level. It made the ride just a bit softer than I would have liked. Most guys use V-code springs which are a little stiffer but raise the front about 4". I bet those...

Champion 3 core vs 4 core radiators.

Has anyone tried the Champion radiators made in the USA? It says on their webpage that you can opt to have your radiator made in the USA at a higher cost. I would gamble that it would be worth the money.

    Rebuild on 7.3 idi

Did the IDIT come with different valve seat material too? When upgrading to inconel or stellite valves, I wonder if the valve seats would need to be upgraded as well?

    Rebuild on 7.3 idi

I work as a pipefitter in oil refineries, where we use both inconel and stellite. Both are very expensive metals that have excellent wear properties at high temperatures. But stellite is too brittle by itself. We only use it to hardface the inside of pipe. Inconel is not so brittle that it...

That price is way too high. Check out craiglist. These can be had for A LOT cheaper.

    Need help with motor pull

Are you guys using a really big cherry picker or a large A-frame with a chain fall? I have an A frame but it isn't tall enough. It doesn't seem like the average cherry picker would be tall enough either. I have about 2 inches of lift in the front.

    Water Pump Humms

When I had my fan belt off I spun the fan with my hand and the water pump made a good humming noise. I had been hearing a humming noise while driving but never thought much of it. I figured the pump must be bad so I drained the coolant to change it. With no coolant the pump makes zero noise...

Converting to cup style freeze plugs

Disregarding that the brass cups are easier to install, which ones are better? There must be a reason for International using the convex stainless steel freeze plugs.

Converting to cup style freeze plugs

Are cup style freeze plugs better or just easier to install? Also, I thought I read somewhere on this forum that these motors MUST have stainless steel freeze plugs.

    4" diamond eye pn.

That s the kit that I used but the downpipe was a couple of inches short of reaching the turbo. I would weld the downpipe. Being that you have to modify it to mate up to the IDI turbo, clamps would be a tricky deal.

    Is it a Good Deal?

Guy has a 7.3 out of a 1993. Reads 145,000 on the digital odometer. Has an E4OD with a receipt showing it was rebuilt 15,000 miles ago. Has injectors and pump from R&D with about 15,000 miles on them. ATS turbo included. But the motor and transmission both look like they have 300,000 miles...

    2 Month Routine Squeak

Oh I see. I guess your belt was slipping on the tensioner pulley then, and I see how the bigger pulley would help. I'm pretty sure mine is slipping on the vacuum pump pulley. I sprayed belt dressing on the belt while the motor was running and I could visibly see the pulley slip as the squealing...

    2 Month Routine Squeak

Do you think that a slightly shorter belt would have the same effect? Or is the bigger pulley doing something else than just making it tighter?
