Zf5 input shaft bearing or SMF noise?

Does the noise go away with RPM above 1400 or so? My single mass setup makes an infernal racket while idling, but only makes noise in gear if RPMs drop too low. The noise does sound horrible at idle but that's part of the charm. Also, synthetic ATF is a much better choice for the ZF...

Will crewcab bucket seats bolt to SCab brackets?

Well thankfully Ford used the same bolt pattern on the seats themselves. All I had to do. was tap two additional holes on the seat bottoms and they bolted right up to my SCab brackets, plus the guy threw in some extra brackets for an SCab.

Will crewcab bucket seats bolt to SCab brackets?

Like the title says, will the front bucket seats from a crew cab bolt right up to supercab brackets? I know the CC brackets do not interchange with a supercab but a local guy is selling some nice seats and I was hoping the bolt pattern on the seats themselves would match up with my SCab brackets.

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

Just for comparison. CA prices are ridiculous. https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/pollock-pines-1986-ford-250-diesel/7310721468.html Yours might be a good deal at $9500

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

I'm just a bit shocked by the asking price on some of these vehicles, at least in CA. But since the pandemic officially kicked in, the number of pre-smog diesels for sale dropped by about a third If I can manage the logistics there are some nice rigs up in Oregon. I know the prices are better...

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

Aside from the high price and StopLeak. Re-upholstered the front seat, had the Banks turbo installed by Banks in Azusa, redid the head gaskets after the turbo install due to leakage(about 100k ago), repainted the truck about 15 years ago, matching camper shell, used Stanadyne fuel additive for...

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

It'd be a shame if he plugged the radiator. Said he paid an arm and a leg to get a brass core instead of aluminum. Although $9500 is more than I want/will pay I looked around at other trucks in that price range, even newer, and there were no screamin' deals. An amazing number of trucks I...

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

All right. I just talked with the owner for 45 minutes and it won't be easy for me to try and talk him down on price. The owner's a very nice retired firefighter who thought he'd keep the truck forever but age, injury and circumstance have changed things. Still gonna' check it out this...

Yeah that would be nice, but I tell ya' there's no better motivation to finish a job and do it well than taking apart your ONLY vehicle.

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

Thanks for the replies--food for thoughts. It's a manual and according to the owner he runs Royal Purple in everything but the engine where he uses Delo. Price is a bit high for the miles at $9500 but I may try to go see it this weekend. It's a couple hour drive or I'd do it sooner. There...

    Truck Registration

~$270 in CA, but no safety inspections or smog, $440/yr insurance so all in all not too bad relative to cost of living and wages where I live.

Wood u buy a high mileage turbo 6.9?

The truck search continues. Found a very clean '86 250 that appears to be well maintained, but, there's always a but, it has 338k and a sidewinder turbo for the last 150k. How much of a concern are the head bolts and rocker arms? I know anything can be fixed if the budget is there, but it...

    Had a strange idle sound...

Assuming you have a functioning tachometer, was it steady or fluctuating? I second the HotShot or similar product. You could also try filling a fresh fuel filter with ATF and let it run long enough to fill the IP and then let sit overnight. Hope it's an easy fix!

    Looking for 6 pin connector

If you can't find the matching half you could always find an acceptable replacement for both sides. Yes it's more of a project but sometimes. . . Maybe something like this https://www.delcity.net/store/Weather-Pack-Female-Housing/p_809164.h_809165

Starter drama. This can happen to anyone with a diesel. Or maybe just me.

I'm always sorry to see folks like you leave CA. If only the techies and Hollywood types would start leaving in hordes. My community was recently hit hard by wildfire and home prices have NEVER been higher, WTF!??! If enough Oilburners leave CA I'm gonna' have to turn the fuel up more to...

air intrusion or IP going out?

I'm sure you have a bit of air intrusion/fuel drain-back. Now as to the low EGT despite 2-flats turned up I had the same/similar experience. I turned my pump up about 1.5 flats but EGTs were below danger levels. Eventually I figured out that the accelerator cable was broken. 15 minutes and...

coolant change question for my 1984 F250 with 6.9 IDI

It probably works just fine, but more importantly you have thicker cylinder walls with the 6.9 block vs the 7.3 and if you seldom drive it then the chances for cavitation are greatly reduced. Personally I just use FleetCharge, the red/pink stuff, and call it good for a couple years--no problems...

    E4od to zf5 swap wiring

Are you talking about the wires for reverse lights? The zf reverse plug only has two wires and is mechanically activated when the shifter is in reverse. There shouldn't be a need to connect to the MLPS.

    Mechanical V. Electric Fuel Pump

Without getting into the performance side of the question I'll just say that I find it much easier to replace my e-pump than the mechanical pump. Sure the mechanical pumps don't seem to fail frequently but a well thought out e-pump install can be much easier to service should the need arise...

3G alternator help - low voltage

Since the P.O. did the work just thought I'd mention that there ought to be a fuse or fusible link in the battery to alternator charging cable. Fairly certain all the factory setups used a fusible link but when I did my conversion I used a MegaFuse & fuse holder.
