Need lessons on how to talk 'machine shop'.

Well I think I found a place. They seem to have the right answers and can do any balancing I need/want. I pulled out the Victor Reinz head gasket set that I bought second hand. Seems that the PO must have needed the valve seals, injector nozzle washers, water jacket gasket and a few other...

    Caught with my pants down

Oh yeah. Love my ciculating in the TDi so much that I requested a price for the truck last week. See: We do offer just the heater itself for other applications. The heater comes with a generic install kit, brackets, clamps etc, but without the VW specific hoses so you would have to figure...

Need lessons on how to talk 'machine shop'.

I just called the shop my friend recommended... did NOT get a warm fuzzy feeling. $220 per head plus parts. When I asked about balancing he told me that they couldn't do it, but he could send me to someone who could. He said not many shops do balancing anymore... wierd.

Need lessons on how to talk 'machine shop'.

I have one you sent me just a few months back ready to go in!! (You also have a second core cam of mine, remember??) I am in Utah. Salt Lake area. On this 6.9 should I upgrade the exhaust valves why I'm in there? I have a 7.3L motor in the shed that I plan on stealing the rockers...

Need lessons on how to talk 'machine shop'.

I blew a head gasket today cresting Parley's Summit. I was pushing it waaay to hard for stock head bolts and my luck finally gave out. Glad it happened today and not on a trip with the whole family. I already have a set of 6.9l ARP head studs and a VR headset. The motor will need to come out...

    088 60-1 compresser wheel?

Good option for who? My fuel- unknown; its just the way I bought it. Has a rebuilt IP from MWFI, but that's about all I know... it definitely puts out a good amount of fuel.

    088 60-1 compresser wheel?

I had mine rebuilt with a bigger wheel last summer. Normal empty driving I see about 1 psi at 1500 rpm. IF I head up a steep hill at the same rpm it will kick up to 3 or 4 psi @ 1500 rpm and pulls strong. Prior to the rebuild it wouldn't boost at all until 2000 rpm or so. YMMV

Lets talk hot rodding 101 everyone...theory and practical too

Would it be worth strapping a block down on an old mill to hold the tap for the freeze plugs? I realize you would still need a long bar to turn the tap, but would it work to align it?

    4x4 5spd in a 2wd

Not a problem; my 2wd has a ZF5 mated to an NP205. Of course, the hope is to put a D60 in it someday.

Nice! I like the way you snuck your call sign onto the dyno sheet.:sly I don't get why the bottom shows "Anders" in green, but the curve is in blue. Maybe I am missing something...:dunno

    missing members?

So how do we make the distinction between "attacking" and asking for proof to back up your assertions? Is there a smilie that we could come up with? Personally, I've seen damn few attacks on here; mostly just folks who are excited to see something different and asking good hard questions...

What do you make of this?

The plant I work at has one of those v-10 gensets! My Dad has a CNG 460 F250 that he bought from a local gas company auction. He rebuilt the motor and put a vortech supercharger on it. He claims its cheaper to commute in than his motorcycle is. I saw this truck on KSL.com a few weeks ago...

Great article on IDIs, IDIT's and DITs.

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Content/Site302/SpecialIssue/11_01_2006/1539Ford73Lpdf_00000002084.pdf I haven't seen this before; it seems to have some good tech in it.;Sweet

My friend picked up a nice 86 F250 (which turbo?)

Hard to say without pics. My van IDI has an ATS that sounds alot like what you are describing. The up-pipes bolt to the manifolds like and 093 and the downpipe is larger and round. I don't think it would clear the firewall on a truck. :dunno I know...not much help, but it will push this...

    A Night Moose Christmas

You sound like a great Dad! Letting him figure things out for himself is awesome. I usually try to talk to my boy about such things, but I just get a blank stare most of the time... getting him to believe in preventative maintenance is going to take him getting a costly repair bill.

    Need to own IDI tools

Ok - I'll go first. But, seriously; this sound like a good idea to have a centralized list of specialty tools. I'd really like to know the info on the freeze plug installation tool. I AM going to get one of Jason's wrenches as soon as I have some extra $$$.
