I'm in Bowling Green, not terribly close but a flat rate box could have it there in a few days.

    New guy, new project

I've driven by Clyde many times on my way to Black Mountain. I got two seats out of an 89 dodge van to put in my truck. I made some minor modifications and used two pieces of 3/4" tube steel to bolt them in. They aren't perfect, but they are comfortable. I really like how they absorb the...

    Fuel Hose

I always just get the stuff at Napa, its around $1 a foot, gates brand I believe. I'm pretty sure the hard lines on our trucks (and pretty much everything else) are 5/16.

Well not an IDI but pretty funny...

Weight. Its almost all up front on an empty truck. It also helps to have all 4 tires pulling than just two. So a 4x4 truck would be better than a FWD only truck as well. Shiny ice like you're talking about is certainly no fun in anything, but at least is reasonably negotiable with 4 wheels...

Well not an IDI but pretty funny...

4x4 would have made all the difference in the world at that point, and anyone saying it ain't so doesn't have 4x4. 4x4 doesn't mean you're invincible, but it makes a huge difference for a truck which has most of its weight (when unloaded) on the front axle. I've been stuck when I pull into a...

Need info on who to get IP from

Additionally, apparently turbo and non turbo, 6.9 and 7.3 have slight differences. When I bought my IP from Oregon Fuel Injection, they had a $250 core charge on the 6.9 pumps and $400 core on the 7.3 turbo ones. I have no idea if they are actually different, but thats what they told me so I...

in need of direction and advice

If you can post a video of it cranking that will help us determine if its spinning fast enough. If you can count the revolutions, it is definitely too slow. That will mean either starter, batteries, or the cables connecting them are in bad shape. Is it always hard starting, or only in colder...

Airtex fuel pump in a Delphi box

Even up to 3300 rpm it won't produce above 4 psi. Mostly 3 now. It runs great, I think I'm going to just run it until I get a new one, instead of putting the old one back on, then switching that one out again. I would have never known it wasn't putting out good pressure without a fuel...

Airtex fuel pump in a Delphi box

The search for a good pump continues So my Carter which I ordered off eBay came today. Headed outside to put it on. The Delphi/Airtex which I had put on was doing fine, and producing about 5.5 psi but I want to get it refunded from Amazon and have a likely better quality pump on there. Turns...

Airtex fuel pump in a Delphi box

I didn't believe you, but then looked and its there all right. Just not under "Fuel Lift Pump." I got my carter for about $32 on ebay though. None of the pumps I've seen have any sort of casting in the housing to distinguish brand.

Airtex fuel pump in a Delphi box

Well thats enough for me. At least three people have bought delphi pumps, and had an airtex warranty card in it. So Delphi = Airtex. I guess its $40 for a carter, hopefully thats not an airtex either. Or $120 at the dealer. I put a "Delphi" on about two years ago. Who knows if it was...

    dont buy glowshift a pillars

I just installed a four gauge pod on my 94. Fits pretty good. I'm really happy with it. If I were to do it over I might go with autometer, but the glowshift was $40 and autometer $80. I don't have any of their gauges. I figured I'd stick with a better known maker for good quality gauges...

    Lift Pump Install Tips

Its not bad. You'll want a 12 point 9/16 box end wrench, my 6 point didn't work for me. Be careful you don't mangle the gasket as you try to cram the new one into place. It may be necessary to rotate the engine a bit to get to the low point on the cam, though I haven't had to on the only two...

    Heads up!

I started a thread a few days ago about this very issue. Bought a delphi off amazon, installed it, did a test drive. When I read the warranty card it said to contact Airtex. No thanks. I guess I'll try a Carter.

Why should I not use an airtex lift pump?

I've just heard bad things about them many times to make me want to avoid them. Rockauto has delphi lift pumps for $30, which is only a little more than an airtex. Problem is, sometimes when they fail they not only could strand you away from home, but they also can leak diesel into the...

Airtex fuel pump in a Delphi box

The box said delphi, the warranty info says airtex. I don't see how amazon could do that, unless delphi is buying airtex stuff and selling them. But its weird either way. So I'm going to return it to them and they gave me the impression they will refund everything, including shipping both...

Is my engine about to pop? Got a trip in 12 days, should I pull it???

I would certainly be replacing all the injectors, and may as well the IP, before doing anything. May not cure it, but it would stink to do all the work of a removal and tear down to find out you need a new fuel system.

Airtex fuel pump in a Delphi box

I've been having some trouble out of the truck recently so I bought a new lift pump for it. I couldn't source anything but an airtex pump locally, so I bought a Delphi off Amazon. It arrived, I slapped in on the truck and went for a test drive. Upon returning home I thought I'd read the...

Rattles a ton when starting cold

Mine rattles pretty good cold, until the cold advance kicks off. It does it a heck of a lot more since I got a meter from Gary and set the timing to 9* BTDC, so I know its set right. Now I'm used to it and my neighbors can get over it.

    zf 5spd towing

I have 4.10's in mine and like them pretty well. Most of what I do is not towing. The best I get is 17 mpg, usually 15-16 though that was with an IP I found out was timed 3.5 BTDC. Now that its set at 9.0 BTDC I should do a little better. Mines always been pretty gutless with much of a load...

    Glow plug questions

http://www.oilburners.net/articles/glowplugbypass.htm This is what I followed when I did it. My controller is still there, and it has a relay on the top of it. The controller just decides when the relay is powered, with this mod you decide when the relay is powered. I've heard that the...
