Worried about my 7.3 IDIT's health

    1) Do you have any aftermarket gauges like a boost and EGT. If you have what appears to you to be some cylinder wear perhaps your EGT's got up there pulling some grades while towing. That could cause some extra piston wear. Boost and EGT. It's a factory IDIT upgraded with a Banks Sidewinder...

Worried about my 7.3 IDIT's health

For the last 10 years or so my truck hasn't been worked too hard. Last year we bought an about 8,000 lb Travel Trailer, and the truck is once again being used as a truck. We did a fairly long vacation trip, which accounted for about 2,500 miles of 3,100 miles on my last oil change, all pulling...

7.3 IDI Turbo fuel mileage after tuned up?

This is very apparent in my truck. It's amazing how much quieter is it 55 miles an hour versus 65 in the cab. And how much smoother it feels. My truck really likes 55 to 60 miles an hour. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

So what did you do with your truck today?

I feel this... My big project is the restoration of my parent's 1969 Corvette. I jokingly... but kind of searously call it my retirement project. As if I'm ever going to find time to retire. [emoji16] Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Do you still have the dual mass fly wheel? Maybe when it gets hot it slips under high load? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

7.3 IDI Turbo fuel mileage after tuned up?

My 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3 IDIT with a Classic Diesel Design 90cc pump, and a Banks Sidewinder Turbo (gen 2 waist gated). (All else is stock). 5spd Manual transmission. 4.10 rear end. LT 235 85r16 tires. If I drive nice ~65mph I get around 12.5 to 13 mpg highway. Towing 8,000lbs...

So what did you do with your truck today?

The issue with rubberized coatings... even if proper surface prep is done, there is a risk that the coating can get damaged, such a kicked up rock or road debris, then water gets into the cut. Once this happens the rubber coating keeps the water trapped between it and the frame, actually...

Damn... the 1972 F250 I had must be worth a fortune now! It came from the factory with the 'Custom' trim package... it even had a factory 'Custom' chrome emblem on the side! [emoji16] 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF 5-spd manual transmission

    Allison 6 speed transmision?

I highly doubt I will go down this path, more of a daydream due to the cost. If anything I would more likely go with a Gearvender and possibly throw in a t-case to get low range. 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF 5-spd manual transmission

    Allison 6 speed transmision?

Correct, my beast is 2WD... but throwing in a t-case just to get "low range" is something I have considered. 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF 5-spd manual transmission

So what did you do with your truck today?

IMHO the 2nd to 3rd jump is too wide. Been there several times... tacked out in 2nd, but just barely can't pull the grade in 3rd.... I've seriously considered a Gear Vendor because of this... but other priorities get in the way. 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF...

How do y’all like to shift your ZF5’s?

I apologize, didn't mean to sound like I doubted you built a custom ZF, quite the contrary, I've seen them and have weighed the pros and cons of one myself. I meant to say I doubt the OP has a modified ZF. 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF 5-spd manual transmission

How do y’all like to shift your ZF5’s?

I will add 1St gear in the ZF is not a Granny gear, you are supposed to start out in first everytime. Family friend insisted on starting in 2nd all the time, myself and others told him it was a bad idea, but 'that's the way he always did it'... At only 60k miles he was pissed when had to...

I always like the double speak 'no reserve.. $2,500 starting bid' No... you just made the starting bid the reserve price, otherwise the minimum bid would be $0 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF 5-spd manual transmission

So what did you do with your truck today?

Hoping for you it's the oil cooler. It'sa pretty common issue. Mine had this issue not long after I bought it. Other than a head gasket, early 7.3s had a bad casting run with problems of porosity between the oil and coolant galleries... but I would think that issue would of been found years...

ZF5 Single or Dual Mass Flywheel?

I never had issues towing with a dmf on my stock 93 IDIT... but others claim they will fall apart if you look cross-eyed at a trailer. I only went SMF because my DMF was worn out after 210k miles and it was hard to find new DMFs at that time. 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks...

So what did you do with your truck today?

My 2 cent guess... Your cab body mounts are shot and under the right load (such as pulling into a steep driveway) the frame/and body flex and the two meet crushing the wire. 1993 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3L IDIT with a Banks Sidewinder ZF 5-spd manual transmission
