    Clutch question

Actually more of a flywheel question. Does this look beyond using a scotchbright pad on the end of a dygrinder to clean up?

    What kind of temps

Ok so it sounds like I'm in the ballpark then. I was just worried it was not reading correctly because I didn't go directly into the manifold.

    What kind of temps

After 3 tries I finally got a working pyrometer (yes I tried 2 cheapos before finally buying a max tow). My question is what kind of EGT should my 6.9 be doing without a load on it? To me it seems awfully low cause I'm idling at around 200 and at 55mph it's not going over 600. I mounted the...

    Muffler removal

I'm running straight pipe dual 4" stacks ( no crossover pipe). Yes it's loud but not unbearable until you put your foot into it and then it will wake the dead.

Sorry to repeat: 4speed to zf5

Thanks. I will get some good measurements when I pick up the transmission on Tuesday.

Sorry to repeat: 4speed to zf5

My understanding is the single or double mass flywheel depends on springs on the clutch. The clutch kit I planned on ordering I believe comes with a flywheel but I was going to verify that with the manufacturer before I ordered.

Any ideas how to get more air???

I'm sorry for the crude drawing. I have a broken left wrist right now and I'm left handed so writing is not easy. But this is how I plan on doing a cold air forced intake. There will be rectangular openings on each side of the radiator going into 4" tubes that go to each side of the air...

Sorry to repeat: 4speed to zf5

Thanks also for the help. I got the transmission for $500 that is in good shape and is the only major modification I plan on doing to my truck. It only has 71000 original miles now and runs perfectly. I'm just wanting to step up the fuel mileage a bit even though it is doing real good as it is...

Sorry to repeat: 4speed to zf5

Can I just use the driveline that originally was with the zf5 as long as the wheel base is the same? Sorry for all the questions. This is my daily driver and I want to try to have everything in place when I do the swap as to limit down time.

Sorry to repeat: 4speed to zf5

basically I was talking about 11" vs. 12" clutch. I believe the 12" is considered heavier.

    Wmo winter use?

I'm in south Carolina. I'm currently running a 30%wmo/70% off road diesel mixture. In warmer weather I will be up too 60%/40% mixture. I don't centrifuge anything and strictly gravity feed my oil after 2 months sitting to separate water and then gravity feed through a 2 micron filter then I...

Any ideas how to get more air???

I'm soon going to relocate my batteries under my flatbed and make my own custom forced air cold air intake. It will utilize the stock air cleaner housing with 2 tubes coming to where my batteries are and scoops through the front on each side of the radiator that will force more air in the faster...

    Tachometer Add on

I bought a cheap ($20) DeWhel from Amazon that operates off the alternator and it does a pretty darn good job. I know most won't recommend using cheap gauges but it is working for me and is pretty darn accurate. My oil pressure gauge and water temperature I bought from Harbor freight and those...

    A $5 IDI repair manual

I got the Chilton's manual and factory shop manual for my 85 that covers everything gas and diesel. I only paid $15 for all of it online. Part of it was download and part of it was a cd in the mail.

Sorry to repeat: 4speed to zf5

I haven't been on in awhile and can't find the thread explaining the 4 speed to zf5 swap. And search didn't show it either. I'm getting a zf5 for my 85 f350 2wd 6.9l. I know the transmission is a direct bolt in but do I need to switch drivelines as well or will my driveline work? Also should I...

    Twin Pyrometers?

I already put 2 small holes (one on each side). I went with 1/16th of an inch which I think will be plenty.

    Twin Pyrometers?

UPDATE: Exhaust was done two days ago. It sounds very healthy and did give a much better throttle response from what it previously had. As stated I cannot tell if there is more power but I've never had a load on it since I've owned it so I may never really know. Now I am getting the air...

    Twin Pyrometers?

I live away from any cities and neighbors are not an issue as we are spaced out a bit. I've always been a bit of a car and truck buff and enjoy having something to tinker with and make either fast or loud. That was part of the reason I got this truck. The other was because I am wanting to do...

    Twin Pyrometers?

I'm 53 years old but still have a tough of teenager in me so yes it's a noise maker. I also like building stereo systems that will keep up with the kids. My 19yo gets jealous of my stereo in my other pickup cause if I turn it up my bass will hit harder than his. I just don't turn the subs up...

    Twin Pyrometers?

Finding one wasn't the issue as I have found several. I was only thinking of saving the extra money for other things if there was no real benefit from it. As far as parts go I have found Amazon to be great so far. I also have other vendors sites and catalogs available to me if I need them. And...

    Twin Pyrometers?

If it ends up being too loud I'll add some glass packs. But I'll start this way and see how it goes. Nice thing about SC is nobody gets to worked up about it either way. As long as I can hear my music I'm good

    Twin Pyrometers?

That's what I was thinking. But wanted another option or opinions. Just wanted to be sure as I'm ordering parts and such now. Thanks

    Twin Pyrometers?

Probably a stupid question but I never really thought about it before so I'll go into what I'm doing first. I'm going to run true dual exhaust on my 85 6.9l non-turbo (no crossover pipe) leading into twin stacks with no mufflers. I'm adding a pyrometer but was trying to figure out if there is a...

The Official "Show Us Your Ride" pictures of member's trucks thread.

I just bought this 85 a couple weeks ago. It looks a little rough but was an old farm truck that has only seen 67000 miles and was parked for more than a decade. I have pretty much finished the maintenance stuff needed to get it on the road again and am giving my 2000 f150 a deserved rest as it...
