    Dead truck... please help!

Wiring all looks good, but, I busted out the multimeter and found that neither wire on the solenoid are getting any voltage, they both read 0V with the key in the “on” position

    Dead truck... please help!

Hit a pothole going down the road and the engine cut out. Truck had great power the whole drive leading up to this. Figured I was out of fuel, so I added 7 gallons and bled the schrader valve. Truck still won’t start. No smoke of any kind from the tailpipe no fuel from cracked injection lines...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Today I installed my Classic Diesel Designs glow plug relay, harness, FoMoCo starter relay, and 8 ZD9 FoMoCo glow plugs. Truck started nearly 0 smoke and in 2-3 seconds, can’t recommend this setup enough. Will post cold start video in the morning. Well worth the $

What’s up with this weld on my valve cover?

Ah I didn't think about arcing, PO dropping the glow plug 'hot' wire on there and arcing it seems like the most likely cause Thanks!

    AC question?

Thanks for the info! Trying to add a/c to my truck and there’s not much in the way of guidance out there. I’m gonna try and do a tech article when I get around to it. Edit: if anyone has an A/C bracket for the 7.3 please let me know id love to throw some stimulus your way!

    Timing my 7.3 N/a IDI

@icanfixall was the person for it, but sadly it sounds like people weren’t respectful of their equipment so they’ve all but ended the program. Has anyone ever taken one to the international dealer to get timed?

    Timing my 7.3 N/a IDI

Is there a good tech article on timing? This sounds like my truck but sadly there’s no one offering timing in Michigan that I can tell :/ Or is anyone still doing timing rentals?

NAPA Echlin Ignition vs Motorcraft Glow plug relay comparison - with pics

I’ve heard of people using the ones from the Buick V6 diesel from the 80s apparently they’re rated for continuous use. This is not an endorsement of them though, just saw it in a forum.

    AC question?

Are the non compressor parts of the a/c system specific to diesel?

NAPA Echlin Ignition vs Motorcraft Glow plug relay comparison - with pics

You guys are a good marketing team.... Ordered a kit from wes! And am gonna send my FoMoCo relay back His relay and harness are CHEAPER than the OEM relay + harness. Only $50 more than I paid for the OEM relay. Well worth $50 to not have to think about that ******* wiring ever again. Also...

NAPA Echlin Ignition vs Motorcraft Glow plug relay comparison - with pics

I’ve been scared of push botton glow plugs because I’ve heard you can accidentally weld your plug into the head, especially with others occasionally driving my truck. Is there a way to use that CDD relay and still have a safety net? I’m heavily considering sending my fomoco one back now ...

NAPA Echlin Ignition vs Motorcraft Glow plug relay comparison - with pics

While trying to figure out my glow plugs I went with the NAPA one to start, cause I could get it that day. Long story short I was able to wait for the motorcraft to show up to install OEM instead I would not suggest the Echlin Ignition brand one. From the pics you can tell that the wiring on...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Grabbed a pendaliner and clearer taillights off a f250 in the junkyard. Cruise control went out on the way back though :( always something with these trucks huh? So I ran through the vacuum lines, and pulled apart the steering wheel. That all looked perfect Time to crawl under the dash I guess!

Plug and play trailer wiring - 7RV conversion

Hello, Quick question, I have the factory trailer wiring plug marked C321A-9E, which feeds to two grey plugs, to a 6 round plug, I need 7 RV plugs for my trailers. Googling that part number brings up a few options for plug and play solutions. But none of the websites say they’re compatible...

Small electrical fire following glow plug relay replacement - what are these burnt wires?

Thanks for all the help! One last question before I really tear into it, I can't figure out where these two pop back out of the harness. They turn into the yellow wires that attach to the top of the glow plug relay, correct? NOT the wires that go next to the heads and splinter off into the glow...

Small electrical fire following glow plug relay replacement - what are these burnt wires?

Found the wiring diagram, looks like it’s line 38, fuse link B and C these feed the two sides of the glow plugs, could bad glow plugs be the cause?? Edit : I have both the ford dealership wiring diagrams for 1989 and most non ford shop manuals for this truck. If anyone that sees this ever...

Small electrical fire following glow plug relay replacement - what are these burnt wires?

its the actual harness catching fire, not the fusible link. here’s the in and out. Straight off the controller as one wire, splits into two then into the harness, originally had 20A fusible link it seems the black / green wire is the one that’s going up in flames worse with the wires...
