    Clutch recommendations for a DMF?

Laser, I'd probably lean towards a LUK still I've had good luck with them, but never used a DMF one. Maybe even go with a ford pressure plate and disc? I went with a SMF in my 93 and have LUK kits in both trucks. I've really liked the clutch feel with the LUK kits. They are silky smooth...

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

Laser I haven't checked it empty yet, but I'm guessing low teens. I'm gonna weigh the truck this week and see what it is by itself. I've been thinking it's probably around 8,000lb, but I'm thinking it could be heavier. Oh and I absolutely love the US gear pulling heavy. It's nice being able...

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

Used the truck to go camping this weekend. Pulled the camper around 300 miles round trip. Mileage was low in my opinion at 8MPG. I was cruising around 65 unless I was bucking a head wind or the speed limit. This truck and trailer are heavy. I checked the scale and the truck and camper weigh in...

Question abut atf in fuel filter clean up?

I don't know about ATF, but if I don't run a diesel additive in my 93 it sometimes dies returning to idle. If I run an additive it runs fine. So I typically run additive in every tank on either truck.

How tall is my suspension lift?

I was thinking a factory F350 4x4 the front shock mounts are around 21" apart if I remembered correct. I found a bunch of measurements on Ford-trucks one time.

    Custom Bumpers

I used these bumpers from a 1999-2004 super duty. Had to modify the mounts, but the fit up just fine. Rear bumper needed clearance for the bed corners and new mounting holes drilled. I was going to make my own, but bought these used locally for decent money. So i had them blasted and then...

    Bad U Joints?

If it is the axle pinion yoke nut. Then the pinion can move around chewing up the reared or letting the yoke walk around. Yoke could come apart and drop the drive shaft on the ground and maybe lock up the rear end. If it's off the transmission it here again could drop the drive shaft and/or...

The Future of the IDI Weekend

I've actually been to Lamberts cafe! That place was great....well back around 1990 when I was there. A Missouri rally is interesting.

    Bad U Joints?

I'm thinking nut off a yoke if it came off your truck. If it is a yoke nut that came off I'm guessing something will grenade in short order.

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

Another quick update. Been driving the truck. Runs nice down the road. Did a little more work and had a few gremlins pop up. Ford explorer keyless entry died. Worked fine last week now nothing last night or today. When I do the stereo and finish the door panels I'll have to dig into that...

    what would you do??

I'd probably just check out the turbo engine in the 87. Do what it needs and run it. If you open it up and it's a complete basket case then go to the next engine. Personally I'd hate to tear down the 108K engine. A good runner is nice to have if the fit hits the shan.

    86 Turbo IDI Build

I'd check eBay or the marketplace here for the VRV valve. Regarding getting your truck worked on. I might work with Promar to have them build a high performance engine you spec. Then have a local shop install it. The other two names I think of are Conestoga diesel in PA and R&D IDI...

    sundays stupid question

I'd watch it. I think I have an 81-86 drivers door and it works, but isn't right. The door panel push pins mount in a different spot. So I'd check those out really well before using them. Otherwise they bolt up fine. All the door guts seemed to work fine. Door panel would be my biggest concern...

New BB injectors, bad smoke, need advice

Hey I would caution running an electric pump through the mechanical. If the mechanical diaphram failed the electric could pump fuel into the crankcase. I would recommend going electric or mechanical, but not both concurrently. I personally haven't had issues with the mechanical pumps and run...

All right futzing on a few more little things. -alternator belt tightened up -Turned up the fuel screw 2.5 flats. Wow does that make a difference. I may need to play with my waste gate now though. I damn near hit 15 PSI hot rodding it last night. Temps were fine still though. -played with...

New BB injectors, bad smoke, need advice

Yes it definitely sounds like you need a mechanical pump. Funny to me it had 1.5-2 PSI residual after sitting, but 0 psi when running. How did it build the residual when sitting??? Anyway that's a cheap and easy swap. Hope it cleans up your smoke. -Jeremy

    Project Big Red

Door post looks great! Came out really nice! Fsmyth - Don't agree more. If your going to paint a car then paint it. Don't just paint the outside. Door jambs and edges all need to be the same color.

    Project Big Red

Laser, On my truck I built scaffolding on both sides of the truck and used it to paint it. Basically ladders with boards between them. It worked fine, but was a little sketchy getting on a off with a paint gun in hand. You'll want to paint from the edge to the middle and then middle to edge...

    Project Big Red

You're on the right track. I painted my crewcab all in pieces. Next time I do a big project I'll have everything primed, fitted, and jambed. Then finish sanding the outside and shoot the fenders, cab and doors as assembled. The roof and hood I would paint at another time. Too hard to paint those...

Blower motor air flow 92-97 vs 87-91

Laser - I don't disagree that there's probably a voltage difference between the two. That's the next item I'm going to check is voltage between them. Since I had the 89 all blown apart and reinstalled everything having a missing ground is completely possible. Yes both trucks were running at...

Blower motor air flow 92-97 vs 87-91

I played with this about 30 min tonight. And made a 17% improvement. Swapping to a ford plastic squirrel cage vs the aftermarket metal brought vent speeds up to 13.3. When swapping the fan I noticed there was a ground wire I landed on the fender that was really long and came from the a/c...

Blower motor air flow 92-97 vs 87-91

andertusa, Ifrythings - You guys hit on the next two issues I'm wondering. I think the squirrel cage in my 89 is aftermarket and I think it might be metal. So I'll have to check that out. The 96 I have has a ford blower motor still so I bet it still has a ford squirrel cage. I'll swap that into...
