When I rebuilt my 6.9 for same reason as yours, I dingle-ball honed the cylinders, since the wear was minimal, and used new pistons/rings, bearings and refurbished rods. No problems after that.
Airtex was good for me, when I used mechanical pumps. You were probably sucking air from damaged diaphragm but electric didn't push hard enough for a good noticeable leak.
Is your electric pump pushing fuel TO the mechanical fuel pump? IF SO, you may have ruptured the diaphragm in the mechanical pump causing it to suck air. Check your oil level on the dipstick, wipe on a cloth not a paper towel & see if you can light with a match, etc
Sounds to me that it is...
This '89 may work (I do not know, own nothing that new :(). Has not been scrapped yet

I would have to have a tall enclosure with 2 post lift to remove box from frame. Can't be that many frame bolts. I reek EASY, no matter the cost, sometimes. Only if it is repetitive usage tho
Know this is late. I put them on my 2004 EB Expedition when I got it in January. Have been great for last 5k miles. I use the HP pads. Got mine from rockauto.com
Sounds like you have at least 1 bent rod according to movement. @ 190,000 miles, I would redo the 1 or 2 rods, piston (if damaged) rod bearings & those rings on the pistons after dingle ball honing those cylinders. Can get away with upper gasket sets. RTV on oil pan. Check front/rear crank...
When this happens, get a length of hose to put between valve cover & your good ear to see which side of engine the sound is originating. May be a rocker, lifter or exhaust leak that stops/lessens when engine heats up.
See if you can find a low mile 2003 7.3 Powerstroke. Best year for them. Have one in my neighborhood that is a Peach but not for sale yet. Wave at him everyday when he goes by. Hoping he will wash the dust off soon, shines like it is. Garage kept.
The seat back is higher and more comfortable. May even find heated/cooled seats (if so, get both parts of the connector under the seat).
EBAY will be high. Check car-parts.com or lkq.com for something in your area
Get a bottle of Hot Shot Diesel Extreme, fill fuel filter, pour remainder in both tanks. Crank and run for about 5 minutes and turn off. Let it set overnite and run it like you stole it the next morning. That stuff will burn the skin off your arm. Will clean out everything.
