    Flywheel Fiasco

Looks about like mine does! FYI the shop that is working on mine charged $700 labor, they would probably be considerably less for a 2wd.

    Flywheel Fiasco

We pulled the inspection cover and it has a ton of play.

    Flywheel Fiasco

Sooo... I posted awhile back about possibly needing to swap out some motor mounts due to a rattle, which was quickly (and correctly) diagnosed by the membership here as a bad dual mass flywheel in my '89 7.3 4x4 with ZF5 transmission. (rattles and clunks with the clutch let out in neutral...

    Steering box adjustment - backwards?

When I first got the truck, I had a shop put in new outer TRE's (I asked him to check for any slop and replace whatever was worn out) and do an alignment. It was still a bit sloppy so I figured the box needed to be adjusted. I noted the position of the adjuster and I went in (clockwise) 1/8th...

Seat covers for this type of Bench?

I think you should just mount it there to the bed.. that looks like a fun place to ride As with everything, Rock Auto has fitted seat covers for those. I have been to the manufacturer's site (of the seat cover) and they look nice.

Need help banks first gen turbo kit

Anyone happen to know the diameter of this pipe, going up to the turbo from the exhaust Y pipe? 1st Gen banks turbo. I need to buy a new clamp, I forgot to measure it. On a trip right now and hope to tackle it when I get back on Wednesday.

    V Belts replacement

Thanks, my alternator belt is the "long route" and wobbles like crazy, even though it is new, tight and the belt pully alignment seems good. Need to get one of those short belts.

    Project Truck - 89' F250

Note the big dent in the driver's side door. I pulled it out this morning with a toilet plunger in about 2 seconds. Who knows how long it's been there. In the next 2 weeks I am replacing the axle pivot bushings and having a transmission shop replace the flexplate and clutch with a solid unit...

    Axle Pivot Bushing

So at considerable expense (nearly $400) I bought the ford tools to pull and install the axle pivot bushings. Hopefully it will make this job a cinch. Then I can sell those tools, or rent them out to make some of that back and help others with this universally hated job.

Vents change just fine but no heat

Haven't had any luck finding one. Might try to rig up a cable luber. I have one somewhere from my motocross days.

    Motor Mount Replacement

Assume you meant to comment on my exhaust leak thread... I have a 110V flux core and did consider that haha At least for the leaky slip joint, not the flange

    7.3 IDI definite exhaust leak

Good to know. Are these 2.5" ? Is that the right size clamp I need. Damn I want to go out and get started on this now.. unfortunately gotta use the truck this weekend. By the way, here is an interesting question. Any point in hitting the nuts with PB blaster now when I have to use the truck...

    7.3 IDI possible exhaust leak

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Crawl under there and see where you find some black soot on the exhaust system.. there's your leak

    7.3 IDI definite exhaust leak

I know I can get an impact on that driver's side flange and get it off. Just wondering how to seal it back. Just clean the threads up and put some new nuts on there, tighten it up? For the clamp, I can't get an impact up there. I may just cut that sucker off with an angle grinder.

    7.3 IDI definite exhaust leak

First gen banks turbo The shitty exhaust shop I use did not want to F with this (I don't blame them) Leak at the driver's side exhaust manifold joint. And at the slip joint where the Y pipe from the exhaust manifolds joins with the pipe that goes up to the turbo (forgive my lack of proper...

    Motor Mount Replacement

So, it is definitely the dual mass flywheel. Not a big surprise there.

    Motor Mount Replacement

Thanks. That did not show up as an option on rock auto for my 89' IDI. But seeing as you have a 91' 7.3 with the 5 speed like I do, I'm guessing it will fit my truck just fine.

    Motor Mount Replacement

So in reading up on the flywheels... it looks like the preferred replacement is a single mass flywheel, larger 12" clutch with the extra springs, to help take out some of the dampening lost from converting from dual to single mass...

    Motor Mount Replacement

Yeah I was lookin at those mounts yesterday ... eeesh I do get a bit of a shudder when the clutch is engaging.

    Motor Mount Replacement

I will check the flywheel like you mentioned. So, press in the clutch, shut down and see if I get the same noise? If noise goes away, I likely need to replace the flywheel? Sounds fun! not!

    Motor Mount Replacement

I think my IDI needs at least one motor mount. I get a loud metal to metal sounding rattle when I shut the engine off from the passenger side mount area. So I have seen some info on jacking the motor up from the lip of the oil pan to get clearance. Any other advice on replacing this mount?
