Sounds like an internal injection pump issue. As noted earlier a worn out one will act up when its hot.
A leak in the fuel line allowing the pump to suck air would probably happen regardless if it is cold or hot. Before condemning the pump, you should check the fuel pressure at the filter head...
7k? Really hard to say without knowing used car prices in your area.
I would be careful with the 6.0 if you are tired of spending money working on stuff. A friend of mine bought one with about the same mileage because it was well maintained and a good deal. He had terrible luck with it, got...
Duh, thanks for the reminders on the hose. I will make sure whatever I use is oil rated.
3/4" hose to 1/2"NPT male barb is going to be the most restrictive part.
I cut down my 1st gen banks airbox on Saturday. Replacing the air filter with a cone style. I need to either fit the CDR on to a 3.5" aluminum pipe somehow, or I can use a catch can setup that was given to me by a friend. The catch can is intended for a smaller diesel, and I may be bottlenecked...
As long as its not a rust bucket, that isn't a bad deal. A leak that bad is most likely the turbo oil return as someone else said. Mine is leaking from the same place. The oil runs down the back of the engine behind the heads. I might get around to fixing that tomorrow.
True. I have not had good luck with their parts, but I have no complaints about the customer service.
Pump is out, drained and ready to ship. Only took me an hour and a half. I am reluctantly becoming a good diesel mechanic.
Im a little confused what you are suggesting?
Carter, and its confirmed to be working fine via pressure gauge.
I'll start the removal of the pump this evening, may get it out tonight with a little luck.
I get it. Probably the easiest way to achieve this is to wire in series, get a 24v alternator and starter, and run the cab off of a 24v to 12v step down transformer.
As Dr. Charles mentioned, its not a good idea to pull 12v power like that from a battery bank wired in series. I mean you could...
Also if you wired your batteries in series for 24V you'd have to get a separate battery and alternator for the cab, or use an expensive transformer to step the 24V down.
Yep the only advantage to a 24V system is that you can use lighter cables. It still takes the same amount of energy to spin your starter. A lot of boats run 24V due to the longer wire runs.
With the 30" cable runs run to the starter in an IDI, this is a solution in search of a problem. If your...
What are the odds that its something obvious and easy to fix?
I sent Pensacola that video and they offered to give me a refund and give me back a core, which seems fair enough. I ask only because I feel like it will take me about as much time to fiddle with all that stuff as it would for me to...
Thanks. Fuel cap not the issue, tried that already.
I ran the engine quite a bit (not on video) and did not see any bubbles at all. I'll recheck this of course.
I'll check the screws and pull the top cover off. Before I installed the pump, I turned the fuel up 1/4 turn of the allen screw per a...
I have a solid 3-4 psi at the filter head and there are no air bubbles going to the IP. No leaks in the injector lines and the injectors were all recently pop tested.
Let me know if y'all can think of anything else to check. The IP is a pensacola reman with 1000 miles on it. If that is the...
EGT's are what you should be concerned about. Fuel will affect boost somewhat as the exhaust pressure is higher with more fuel at a given RPM, but for tuning purposes with a factory turbo that is irrelevant.
I have seen up to 19mpg unloaded with the truck in my signature. That is with 4.10's running about 2400rpm at 65mph. I average 17.5 combined, that is a number I am very sure of (my fuel sender does not work so I fill up via mileage and I do a calculation about every tank).
Get your timing set...
Have not done it myself, but I believe many members here have done it. It will be tight, but doable, especially if you are sticking with head bolts and not doing studs.
By the way, when dealing with intermittent gremlins, it helps to keep reminding yourself that it is only a machine, there is a mechanical problem somewhere, you just have to find it. It is not cursed and it does not hate you. Keep telling yourself that :)
Ah crap.
Problems are back. I drove the truck all weekend, probably 150 miles, lots of highway, not a hiccup. Fired right up even after sitting overnight, and ran great.
This morning it cranked right up after sitting overnight. Drove it about an hour to a junkyard to pick up some parts for...
Exhaust contacting the cab/firewall is my best guess. Look at the pipes going to/from the turbo and see where they could be contacting the cab when the engine is torqued in the mounts.
There isn't much clearance there to start with and when the cab mounts get old and sag, it reduces the...
