This is helpful. Thank you for sharing. I will take these tips and consideration when I do the interior. My main concern is insulating the engine bay specifically for turbo setup at the firewall side. Don't want the damn pipe heating up my firewall too much and cooking the inside.
Thanks for all the input guys. I'm planning to use DEI's form a shield on the trans tunnel. May put some Kilmat underneath it though.
I am thinking I will leave the fenders on uninsulated. The stuff that's there is just so nasty. Can add something later there.
My factory firewall and fender insulation is deteriorated and a mouse nest on my 86 F350 6.9idi. Does anyone have recommendations for what to replace the engine compartment insulation with for fenders and firewall? I will be installing a turbo so feel I def need to add something to the trans...
Hey y'all, I am looking for information on specs to consider when installing Russ's (or even R&D's) Type4 cam. I have an opportunity to purchase a type4 cam and had some questions.
Mu understanding so far..
- The intakes are recessed between 0.042 & 0.054 and the exhaust are 0.051 to 0.063 for...
I considered the R&D cam but felt like for my needs, the cam would not be a huge benefit for my part selection and the cost of it and would start getting outside of just a mild build. Felt like if I was building an IDIT block then it would be absolutely worth it to get the most out of that beefy...
Hey everyone,
Thought I would start a build thread for my 88 7.3 IDI mild build. Only reason I know it is from an 88 is the rod bearings are dated 9/87 ha. As some of you have already seen, the motor is going in my 86 F350 crew to replace the cracked 6.9 that's in it. PO of my truck ran...
Thank y'all for the information. Has been very helpful. I think I may keep my mechanical for now as it has started on first rev every time for 4 years like that (has because new engine is going in). I think I will keep a spare pump in the tool box though. The pump is pretty accessible from the...
I was wondering what are the benefits of adding an electric lift pump for these engines and is it really needed? Like, will the stock mechanical pump do everything I need for a mild built 7.3 with a turbo and 90cc IP? I could understand needing more fuel delivered if using a larger IP but not...
Nero, thank you. I will consider the comp springs then.
Looks like I'm not the only on that has asked this question before ha. I will plan to go with 90cc and intercool eventually once I decide how to approach. Seems there are concerns with heat soaking for water to air...
Hey guys,
Spoke to Joe at CDD and this was his recommendation for my NA 7.3 build:
- Stage 1 turbo kit w/ 61mm Turbo, Ceramic coated pipes, non intercooled
- Head studs
- 90cc pump or 110cc pump w/ an intercooler (says the 110 w/ intercooler is the max safe IP for stock NA 7.3 lower)
- Stock...
Thank you very much again this has been very very helpful. Been doing lots of research and comparing and I am REALLY liking the bank's turbo kit for its completeness and price point.
If using the banks turbo kit, would a 90cc IP be the way to go? Or turn up the stock unit? Should I also do a...
Thank y'all for all the replies and compliments on my truck. It is a joy to drive. Yes I am in MS where the truck spends most of its life so only around 300ft elevation. I tow a single axle ski boat in the summer (3300lbs) and will pull a 16' car hauler flat trailer on occasion.
I have a C6 in...
Hi,
I am brand new to the forum so please let me know if I am not posting in the right place.
I am looking for direction on things to consider and part/vendor recommendations for recommended upgrades to consider for building my 7.3 IDI NA. I do not know very much about building an IDI. I do...
