7.3 Truck Turbo for 6.9 Van

Morning! Looking to upgrade my ‘86 6.9 NA Van with C6. I found this full ‘94 7.3 engine for sale with a turbo, looks like a Garratt, maybe Hypermax? The whole thing for $800 CAN. Seems tucked back behind the engine rather than the stock 7.3 turbos that are on the angle towards the front...

    NA 7.3 Y pipe

No I trust you that the stock pipe is good for NA 6.9. :) I’m just asking to see if larger, exhaust will improve the performance or not. He claimed he noticed improvements with the bigger exhaust.

    Backpressure on exhaust

Got a shop here in Toronto that can do the whole truck custom from the manifold to tailpiece. Quoted SS, magnaflow, all mandrel starting 3” of y. $1150 USD all in cash. Just really questioning how it’ll help the engine. Because I’ll never do it again.

    Backpressure on exhaust

What about the “restrictive y-pipe” some have claimed should be replaced / improved. Mines shoot and considering upgrading my full exhaust. Custom SS and call it done for 10+ years. Maybe I’ll start a new thread in 6.9

Accurate Diesel - ‘86 6.9 Glow Plug Controller Upgrade

Thanks for all the replies! Yes definitely keeping the manual button. Works great (for me) haha. I may try a new controller to see how it works. First I’ll see if I can unscrew the one in place. Or go with what @Old Goat suggests and spend the time to upgrade to the 7.3 system if I feel so...

Accurate Diesel - ‘86 6.9 Glow Plug Controller Upgrade

Hey everyone! Glow plug controller failed on me on a trip. Installed a manual push button before as backup, and running that now. Wondering if upgrading to this controller is any good? https://www.accuratediesel.com/shop/61.html Also anyone know a Canadian source that’ll be great. I’m...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

FIXED! And back on the road on Monday. Used a jerry can, and with clear hose, worked my way inserting at each part. Ended up being the replacement water separator I attached in the fall. The Amazon water sep had a hard plastic filter housing that seemed to crack on the top, so no diesel would...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Okay yes that’s a great idea. I’ll try that tomorrow or suggest that to a mechanic if I can find another one in town. I’m not going back to the guy who left the van stranded Friday night. I’ve attached a clear hose today, on the outlet of the lift pump. Plenty of air. Drove to fill both tanks...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Hey thanks for the reply! Been outside now in above freezing temperatures. Still plenty of air in the intake of the lines. I added a clear hose on the outlet of the pump right before the filter. A lot of visible air lines flowing out of the pump.

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

With my 6.9 IDI doesn’t look like I have a fuel lamp on my dash. The last mechanics in the prairies a couple weeks ago checked for venting on the tanks, they blew thru I think the vent hoses hanging off the sides

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Just did another test only on front tank. First bleed and crank, plenty of fuel flow, not even 5 mins, no fuel at valve, turned it off, waited a bit, cranked it over fuel at valve, then 5 mins after running full of air…. What would make the fuel fluctuate so much? Can the pickups react in such...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Okay, yea my guess is to check the shower heads / pickups. Even just on one tank and ride with that. Kinda hard to drop a tank in a lot, and don’t wanna give this guy more business gonna try and call around

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Got fresh batteries in the van, was able to turn over after bleeding the filter head valve while cranking, mech pump works. Had good flow, got engine up to temp, on both tanks for 10 mins each. while running checked to see if fuel was flowing to the filter head, nothing! Switched tanks...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Thanks for the replies! Shower heads are in the tanks correct? It’s a new FSV, switched out from original 2 weeks ago, it clicks every time. Had it not react right away, needles on dash wouldn’t change, then after 5 mins of driving they switch. But it seems to click ever time so far this week...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

Traveling 6.9 E350 converted camper van down in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. Got towed down to a “diesel specialist” here in town from ski hill. Wouldn’t turn over, killed batteries up on the mountain. Fuel in the lines from somewhere with inconsistent flow, sometimes more rough power...

Okay good to know! I found a GV unit out in Maryland that bolts to the 1356 transfer case. So I may need the tail housing and coupler to attach this to my C6 transmission? Not entirely sure, all this is new to me. thanks. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/for-sale-gear-vendors-overdrive.91135/

    For Sale Gear Vendors Overdrive

Okay great, I only have the 2WD Econoline. Not exactly sure what a c6 / 1356 means in terms of my fit. Would you able to ship to Toronto? Could see about doing a road trip down to Maryland later this summer if not! Also would a new low-stall torque converter be an adequate addition to this...
