3G alternator over charging at idle?

Did you verify the charging voltage at the batteries with a real meter? Sometimes that's all it takes to see things are fine but the instrument is busted... That said, I've never seen a 3G pump more volts at idle than running, so that's weird!

So what did you do with your truck today?

I support relocating the filter/header etc, but you might consider running the mechanical in parallel with the Facet. I have the 9-11psi Facet and it won't keep up at WOT. My stock pump is maxed out so you may have different fuel needs, but the injection timing does change from 0psi to 9psi...

Looking at Diff Lockers & LSD

Factory is Eaton? Or a knock-off?

So what did you do with your truck today?

The Facet is a bypass-style pump, so it never shuts off. It just doesn't force more than the rated PSI through the hose. And if you still have a return fitting from the filter head even if it was the static pressure style it wouldn't shut off most likely either. It can't pump through a...

Looking at Diff Lockers & LSD

I'm basically here to agree with the boys... I have a Detroit Locker in the rear of my F-250. The most I tow is maybe 7k but once the locker is "broken in" it's pretty smooth. The only issue with it is that it drives the INSIDE tire on turns, which of course always loses traction first and then...

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

@Brian VT I tried your "prime" method of 4 second crank then 10 second glow plug cycle, barely started, and I had 3 or 4 poorly firing cylinders for a bit. So whatever's going down with your setup isn't the same as mine, that's for sure. To me it sounds like that setup works well for...

WANT TO TRY A LIL BUDDY HEATER TO WARM ENGINE

I've read stories of Alaska truckers that would do stuff like that. Put a big blanket over the nose of the truck and pour diesel into a bucket of sand or something and light that on fire(cause it burns very low and slow from the sand and the super cold temps). Don't quote me on the specifics but...

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

Pressure drops to zero inside the line, or at least very low PSI. Then it takes extra revolutions to prime it back up, because remember each stroke from the IP is just a tiny bit of fuel. However I don't think air can get back up into the lines unless the injector pintle is super jacked up/bit...

    Wobbly Alternator Belt - Cause?

Check out this link for my V-belt wobble hack. Still going strong! https://www.oilburners.net/threads/alternator-idler-pulley-for-v-belts.91250/post-1101796

"Prime" the fuel system before starting?

I'd lean more towards injector leak down than air intrusion. I also think that if all you're doing is giving it 3-5 seconds crank first then every time you do that it saves a GP cycle, warms up the starter, gets the oil flowing, primes the IP/injectors...I got no issue with it. Probably a good...

Won’t restart after sitting for 30 minutes

Agreed, the only adjustment that changes idle speed that I know of is the fuel screw inside. It'll change timing and idle speed IIRC.

    Grumpy idle noise in gear

Yep I had to swap engines in by brother's Volvo S40 and put in a new clutch-- I was blown away that the stocker is a DMF! For a little 2.5l 5-cyl! Turns out they are more common than I thought...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

Good plan! Oh man, you ain't kidding. Those injectors are some tough steel. That's a good test, though if you're losing current through a bad connection you wouldn't find it that way. Well they may be pooched then. I still wish we knew why, there are fakes on the market for sure, which is a...

    Grumpy idle noise in gear

While I don't doubt the NVH division or anything, I have run my SMF conversion at 800-ish rpms for years and never get rollover. I also don't lug the engine. I had adjusted the RPMs up for so long that I forgot why, moved it back, and instantly regretted it. LOL

    Grumpy idle noise in gear

It just seems odd to me that Ford went to all the trouble of a DMF when raising the RPM's would also get rid of the noise, for something that was just annoying. I guess I always assumed it was damaging.

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

I was going to say: glow plugs, starter/batteries/cables, THEN start looking at the IP. Sounds like you found it at the GP's. I've heard a lot of back and forth about GP's and Ohm testing. Take an incandescent test lamp to them and see if the bulb glows brightly. Or if you don't have one, tap...

99% sure it's the booster. Thoughts?

Winner winner chicken dinner!!! :yell: Yep that's a dead giveaway right there. I drove around for years without a parking brake and poor braking just being ignorant of how to tighten them up. I have to say, my only experience is with the Sterling 10.25 axles so I can't comment on the Dana 60...

99% sure it's the booster. Thoughts?

Probably a good call, pavement and low dust. Makes for a fast adjustment. Supposedly these auto-adjust, but they have to be in good shape AND you have to stab the brakes going into reverse. The way I park, I never stab the brakes in reverse. I always back into my spots or pull-through where...

99% sure it's the booster. Thoughts?

I was gonna say that the height-sensing valve should do the proportioning. So I suppose it's not a big deal that the unit at the master is just a spacer. I don't have any experience with the type your van has, but understand the concept. No matter what you do with the hydraulics, bad rear...

NEED HELP SHOULD I BUY ? TURBO QUESTIONS

Underrated comment. When buying a used turbo, assume it will need a rebuild, and check it first. They RARELY get sold before they are borderline junk, expect to rebuild.

30 degree cold start (opinions wanted)

I agree the timing does make a huge difference in starting. The more retarded the timing, the easier the start in my experience. And of course then you have IP health, starter health, battery health, good grounds, etc. Another factor is the compression ring condition and if rebuilt or stock...
