New battery cables - 2/0 - with crimp on lugs and military terminals. I realize now that I flipped the batteries around from the original location (i.e., now terminals are closer to core support), but I don't see a reason to change it back. Installed new battery trays, too.
Replaced the hood cable. Another PITA job, but the old one was about to come apart.
Power steering pump was leaking so I removed it to clean, rebuild, and reinstall. Unfortunately, there are 10 detents and 10 springs that will exit the pump at a high rate of speed if you don't pay attention...
Flushed the radiator and drained the block of coolant, changed all the radiator and heater hoses, changed all the belts while I was at it, etc. Then changed the thermostat, which was a royal PITA. And while I had the alternator off, I swapped in a new vacuum pump and vacuum hose to the brake...
Battery cables on Project Brownie were looking rough so I replaced them with 2/0 cables and military terminals.
After I completed the job, I realized that I had flipped the batteries around. The terminals had been closer to the firewall originally but now they're closer to the radiator...
Well, I think these expire or maybe they're not terribly accurate when new? I tested the same coolant, two days apart, with test strips from the same bottle, and got results that differed by a fair bit.
Well, I checked the date on the Napa test strips, and they expired in 2022, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were no longer good.
I tested the coolant in the radiator again today with Napa strips and came back with a ph of 7.5. I also tested it twice with some new ph test strips that I...
I'm going to test the distilled water that I used, the coolant that I used, and then test what's in the radiator again. I also bought another brand of ph test kit to compare it to.
Finally got around to flushing the radiator. I did remove the block plugs and I was certainly surprised at how much came out.
While I was at it, I replaced the radiator hoses, thermostat (what a PITA!), and heater hoses.
I refilled with Zerex Low Silicate green coolant from Napa. This is...
Ok, so I have a 1991 F350 7.3; it has v-belts. The alternator belt was wobbly so I decided to change them out this weekend when I did a coolant flush and radiator hose change.
Anyway, the alternator belt was still wobbly with the new belt and I got it nice and tight. It's bad enough to where...
I replaced the plastic gears; motors were fine, but gears were stripped. Thanks for the recommendation!
FYI - I realized after the fact that I didn't need to remove the case from the motor, but it went back together without any issues.
I started off wrenching in the dirt in our pole shed. Only dropped my '69 Camaro off the floor jack once; luckily I wasn't under it at the time.
Anyway, after 26 years in the Army (I retired last year) and 15 moves, it's nice to be able to unpack and get settled in somewhere.
Time for a long overdue update.
Yanked the old windshield (it was cracked), removed the surface rust, treated channel with POR-15, followed with POR-15 primer, installed new clips, followed by urethane and a new windshield.
Went through the front brakes - new flexible lines, new calipers...
