    brakes sticking?

That's for sure. I went through all sorts of grief before I changed the cables to each rear brake. I non contact IR thermometer helps pinpoint which drum/rotor is the hottest as they all get hot when running.

    rear brake keeps tightening

The last shop that worked on the brakes did put the adjuster in backwards - the self-adjusting lever loosened rather than tightened the brakes.

    rear brake keeps tightening

I'll check the ebrake. This proportioning valve - would it just affect one side? The truck has never had really good brakes - The anti-Lock brake system is pretty primitive. Thanks for the suggestions!

    rear brake keeps tightening

On a 93 F-250... The self adjuster keeps taking up slack to the point of heating up the brake and boiling the fluid in the wheel cylinder and adjacent brake line. Last week I replaced the shoes, wheel cylinder, springs and adjuster with new parts. The drum went on very difficultly even though...

Idler pulley with v-belts and floppy alt/fan belt?

I had a 6.2 that had an awful lot of slop in the belt when running; no matter how tight I made the belt there was a long run between the crank pulley and the alternator that had about 3" of play when the engine was running. Most was caused by vibrations in the engine - the trick to long belt...

My Dog Rotella 15w40 for $12.99/gallon?

It used to be that a quart of motor oil was approximately linked in price to one gallon of gas - Maybe it's lagging behind and the price of motor oil is still based on $4 a gallon gas. I've always liked Rotella and have had great engine longevity from using it - maybe the price will come down as...

    off road fuel

It used to be - now at least in Maine Off-Road is ULS - a change that added up to 15 cents per gallon over heating oil. At work we needed to add a second tank and pump for the ULS off road or risk a $30K fine.

    off road fuel

Heating oil will be cheaper and maybe easier to get delivered.

    New truck big problem

I had the same leak location - it ended up being the nipple between the oil pressure sending switch and the head.

Silencing warning chimes on 08 F-350

Is there any way to silence or quiet the hellish chime/bell on the 08... it's the key in ignition/lights on/seat belt off chime that's obnoxiously loud that I'd like to either quiet or disable. It sounds like it comes from the headlight switch area under the dash. We're in and out of this...

    coolant temps

I'll have a look... but if memory serves I have a 190-200 reading on the gage consistently when it's cold outside and the bottom of the radiator is only warm. We talking about a 7.3 IDI?

    coolant temps

But it corresponds with the stock gage - the top of the water pump is a sample of coolant temperature before it passes through the radiator.

    coolant temps

My 1993 F-250 started to run hot only when towing in 2005. It set the dashboard warning lite and pegged the gage. We were a long way from home so we had to run the heater on high with the windows open and stay off the accelerator. It boiled over on a short trip between work and home - again...

    coolant temps

An IR no contact temperature reader can really help diagnose cooling problems; check the block temperature, the thermostat housing, upper radiator and lower hose. My radiator never leaked but it did make the engine run hot as the foil between the cores rotted away. A new radiator made all the...

i have a problem someone please help

Mine leaked from the nipple between the oil pressure sender and the engine. An easy fix if that's the problem.

    ouch

You might have been able to salvage the sensor - I cut both wires, slipped on shrink sleeves, spliced, and it was golden again.

    Little Torubles found today

Wait till you find out how much that front wheel cover costs.... The oil leak might not be that bad - I had the same thing happen, turned out the nipple to the oil pressure sending switch broke giving a fairly high flow of oil leaking with no advance drips to warn me.

Bring in an old U-bolt and any spring shop can make one up while you wait.

    Glow plug fuel heater

About ten years ago I plumbed in 2 tees in the heater hoses, adapted it to 3/8" refrigeration tubing (with shut offs) and wrapped the fuel filter with about 8 turns of tubing, covering the whole thing with thin fiberglass insulation and then aluminum flashing. I haven't had a gelling problem...

battery light coming on - how to trouble shoot?

I've had the same problem with my '93 IDI - cleaning the connections on the alternator fixed it every time.

    Water in fuel

Stanadyne Performance formula will disperse water. I have not had to drain water out of the filter bowl since I started to use it 6 or 7 years ago. The water is sort of emulsified and put into suspension so the water is passed through the system and out the tailpipe. Otherwise I don't know how...

    I love my IDI because

I like mine because it towed a 3 ton travel trailer across the USA 4 times and down into Mexico 6 times and never let me down. I bought it new and recently spent about $10K on bodywork, a rebuilt and beefier transmission, new radiator, lift pump, thermostat. I trusted it enough to tow again 800...
