1985 6.9 IDI major oil leak, probably rear main seal?

I've had two IDIs with leaky rear main seals but they were such small leaks it wasn't worth fixing. Maybe you have a nice clean concrete driveway and you want it to stay that way?

1987 E-350 changed out fuel / water seperator

When the engineers were designing that actuator I would have thought someone might've noticed that it looks friggin' ridiculous and that there must be a better way.

1987 E-350 changed out fuel / water seperator

I dunno. The link opens up fine without any warnings on my end. It's just a link to an image found using the DuckDuckGo search engine. But I also don't use McAfee or Windows/Mac so my internet security situation is different. Side note: You should watch the documentary about the guy who...

1987 E-350 changed out fuel / water seperator

It's likely just a coincidence that the key acted up when it did. If the key won't turn smoothly then I would dig into the column a bit. You need to remove the steering wheel to access all the relevant parts. The lock cylinder engages a mechanism that may need to be lubricated or the ignition...

Do you run through the radiator too or just the external?

7.3 idi crank but no start

Thanks for the info franklin2, just yesterday I was cleaning and inspecting the connector that feeds the glow plugs and other wiring on top of the engine and I noticed two larger blue wires that were sticking out of the loom and now I'm fairly certain those must be the two fusible links.

    ZF5 Lubricant

Whatever you do don't try the 30wt non-detergent oil that some have claimed as an option. I tried this in a ZF many years ago and getting into first was a PITA in anything but warm weather.

    Air filter

Anybody with the Banks turbo have before & after EGTs with the larger filter behind the driver side battery? Butt dyno results? I don't like the factory Banks config just because it clutters up the top of the engine and the filter options are fewer.

    Embarrassing newb question

Keep the e-pump. Are you sure the FSV is opening/operational on the injection pump? If the truck sat for a long time the FSV could be gummed up and just needs a good cleaning.

    Egt gauge installed

On flat highway at 55mph-65mph I see 500-600 typically but my IP isn't turned up very much either.

Drive whatever makes driving fun. I've worked out of my trucks for the last 20 years and can't even imagine what it's like to not need a truck every day.

    LED dash lights Issue

I'm surprised the dash lights are wired in like that since it's not as easy to replace them as it is a tail light bulb, thanks FoMoCo. Do the new LEDs dim properly?

    LED dash lights Issue

I'm surprised your ABS light doesn't come on at about 36mph. I had a flatbed with all LED lights and noticed that as soon as I hit about 36mph the ABS light on the dash would illuminate. After much internet searching I finally found info from Ford stating that this was normal behavior when one...

Unknown starting issue. Problem almost certainly lies with operator.

If you crack the injection lines where they connect to the injectors you should get some wetness there but even with the engine running there won't be a tremendous spray with the line just barely cracked open--more like a dribble down and on to the plastic return line cap.

Grease fitting on the pitman arm

Just wondering what axle are people having this problem with? My last two trucks have had kingpin D60s in front and I never had an issue accessing any of the zerks. And since we're talking zerk fittings I sure do like the LubeLocker attachment for easily grabbing on to zerks.

Unknown starting issue. Problem almost certainly lies with operator.

If you're not getting any fuel out of the injection lines it is possible the injection pump is seized. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can offer a way to verify whether or not an IP is seized, I dunno. Glow plugs are an important part of the starting system but not 100% needed when...

    TE06H Rebuild Banks Sidewinder 24010 TE06H

You can buy a re-seal kit from Banks for $20--just the rubber sealing components included when you buy a whole new turbo kit. I think it was only 6 or 7 pieces in the re-seal kit.

    TE06H Rebuild Banks Sidewinder 24010 TE06H

I am doing a different intake setup and would like to re-clock the compressor side--is the snap ring the only piece holding things in place? I have yet to remove the turbo and would like to know what's needed before I dive in.

Blown head gasket or cracked head???

At least in my area there is no shortage of cheap 7.3 IDI engines on FB Marketplace and often times you can get the whole truck for not much more.

7.3 idi turbo very very very long start

You really didn't understand a word I wrote. Try again. " Starting Fluid/Ether in Diesel Engines with Glow Plugs Ether/starting fluid is also not compatible with any diesel engine that features glow plugs or any form of intake heater (grid heaters, intake air heaters, etc). The glowing red hot...

7.3 idi turbo very very very long start

A little starting fluid is fine IF the glow plugs are not being used as well--one or the other but not both. If your fuel system is allowing fuel to drain back to the tank then that needs to be addressed. If you fill the fuel filter in the evening is it still full in the morning? On a 78 degree...

Rear Brakes on the 86 F-250, blew the R/R Hub Seal. Whada mess.

Yeah we've had intermittent problems with the rodent population but leaving the hood up even partially will help. Better yet is to add a light under the hood during the night. Some people have had luck with spreading cayenne pepper around. One of my clients actually had to get rid of her BMW...

    Are R&D parts good

ZD29 appears to be the part number for new Motorcraft glowplugs. There also seems to be genuine ZD9 plugs as well but many counterfeits on Ebay/amazon. RockAuto and Oreilly only list ZD29 plugs currently. When I bought my first IDI the glow plugs were a mess as the previous owner installed...
