    Failing Injection pump?

Do you know where the GP controller gets the temperature input?

    Failing Injection pump?

A few times, seemingly at random, I've had situations where the WTS light did not illuminate but I was able to crank the engine and start--never with a cold engine though, always at operating temp. Fuses all checked out and wiring looks intact so I checked the harness connector that feeds...

    Oil Cooler Rebuild

The interesting thing about the oil cooler job is that darn near everyone has a slightly or radically different approach. I can understand variation from 4x2 to 4x4 or vans but the variety of techniques on this one is fun. I'm still impressed by the people who claim they reinstalled everything...

    EOD 40 question

I think overfilling the trans can lead to blown seals so I would definitely drain some.

    Oil Cooler Rebuild

I've done two oil coolers, one F250 4x4 and one F350 4x4, and I went in through the driver side wheel well without needing to jack up the engine or touch the exhaust. The F250 had a slight lift in front so maybe that helped but it was relatively easy to do--I did unbolt the PS pump but did not...

    Glow plug controller questions.

One major advantage of the push button is if/when there is a glow plug failure you can still glow the working plugs long enough to start the engine in cold temps. In my opinion the factory setup is great as long as everything is working properly, but on 30+ year old trucks "everything" is...

    EOD 40 question

You might be okay. A friend of mine once tried to do an oil change on his Toyota truck and actually drained the auto transmission, yeah real smart I know, but once the fluid was topped off to normal it drove fine. Hopin' your is okay too. I suppose it's worth dropping the pan to check for...

7.3 IDI ZF5 south bend clutch help!

I had a truck with the Luk kit and it worked fine. Remember, most old IDIs are not creating a ton of power so a crazy clutch is not necessarily needed.

    Dead spot in TPS/FIPL

Some good info here, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1120114-a-t-e40d-fipl-tps-sensor-trouble-shooting-and-adjustment-diesel-applications-only.html I agree that the idle setting is far more important than WOT voltage. The TPS setting is super sensitive. I currently have my TPS set to about...

    Dead spot in TPS/FIPL

Dead spot = New TPS time. Also make sure TPS ground is 0v and reference voltage is 5v. After much fiddling with the TPS I find that the recommended idle setting of 1.2 is really just about perfect in terms of holding a gear longer before shifting. Less likely problem to check for but I like to...

Should I pull the trigger or wait until I have my engine torn down?

Good to know you had no issues running a full quart. The difference in how the engine runs now is amazing. I've been driving the truck all day and it's so much smoother and the exhaust note sounds much better. Kano Labs for the win.

Should I pull the trigger or wait until I have my engine torn down?

I just used Kreen for the first time in trying to remedy a tick that is either a lifter or maybe a sticky valve. I went for the engine flush method as described on the label and after about 40 minutes of idling with 32oz of Kreen I noticed a positive effect which was a much smoother idle and...

I thought the coffee can simply held a small reserve of vacuum for the system--not sure on intended purpose.

    '89 F350 Trans Cooler Install

This style of clamp is so much better than regular cheap-o ring clamps. Knock on wood I've never had a problem with one of these clamps.

    1990 7.3 E4OD issues.

1991 F350 CCLB. From fiddling with TPS and RPM settings it seems the voltage setting at idle is more important than the WOT voltage. 1.2 or maybe a smidge higher seems to be the best idle voltage as it allows the transmission to hold a gear longer/to higher RPM. The TCM is probably programmed...

    1990 7.3 E4OD issues.

As I understand it, which of course may be incorrect, the torque converter will not lock in 2nd gear and I certainly have never felt it lock when my E4OD was in 2nd. Knock on wood I have no trans trouble codes, knocks again, but I can distinctly feel the trans go 1. 2. 3. lock, 4th/OD. When...

    '89 F350 Trans Cooler Install

You don't need that hose. My truck had that lower heater hose when I bought it but after installing a new radiator I ditched that hose. There is a brass fitting with a tiny hole in it that restricts flow so I don't think it serves a critical function. And it's just regular 5/8 heater hose. I...

Rear drum brake keeper spring pop off

Years ago I had one of those hold down springs pop off and make enough noise that I noticed it and avoided any real damage. I put the spring back on and it's been years without another problem. I'm sure it was operator error on my part but I don't know where I went awry.

    '89 F350 Trans Cooler Install

Hmm. I recently redid my rubber trans cooler lines and they were 5/16th or 11/32, but if the 3/8 isn't leaking then I guess it's okay.

    '89 F350 Trans Cooler Install

Did you use the included 3/8 hose or adapt down to factory 5/16th or 11/32? Nice clean install for a clean ol' truck.

    1990 7.3 E4OD issues.

The code 23 is probably coming up because you aren't holding WOT while performing the KOEO test. Just hold the throttle open at the IP while performing the test and the code 23 should go away.

1985 6.9 IDI major oil leak, probably rear main seal?

And when you do the rear main seal it seems a lot of people need the seal kit that comes with a repair sleeve since the rotating seal wears the metal surface a tiny bit and a new seal often leaks if installed without the sleeve.

7.3 idi with banks sidewinder leaking oil from intake hat

It should seal. The grommet for my CDR was very stiff but when I bolted on the new CDR valve everything sealed up fine--no RTV needed. In a pinch I've made gaskets from a bulk sheet of EPDM rubber.

7.3 idi with banks sidewinder leaking oil from intake hat

Make sure you have the large o-ring that seas the intake hat to the manifold and that it isn't twisted or improperly seated. When I bought my truck with the Sidewinder I found the o-ring was missing but did not notice a leak. I bought an o-ring and when installing the intake hat part of the...

1985 6.9 IDI major oil leak, probably rear main seal?

I grew up doing concrete work with my dad so I got an education about the evils of leaky vehicles and people who think it's cool to write their initials in someone else's concrete. Thank goodness I have a gravel driveway--it always looks clean!
