    body lift

I love my body-lift. The main reason to buy a "kit" instead of just making riser-blocks yourself is to get all the different bolts in the proper length. There is no real reason the kits say "not for diesels". You can go up 2-inches with no engine clearance issues; go up one more inch to...

    Long term engine storage

It is a simple matter to fabricate a carriage on stout casters from a good dis-carded pallet and some miscellaneous pieces of wood. Be certain to cover the intake AND exhaust with something that mice won't eat; a combination of window-screen and Reynold's Wrap works well. So long as you...

has anyone seen these tow mirrors?

I was noticing that as well. One of the first things I change on any truck, big or small, is to relocate the mirrors as far forward as the door will allow. If the people who decided where to mount mirrors actually ever had to use them, you can bet they would quit putting them so far back...

has anyone seen these tow mirrors?

Big truck or pick-up, I just can't like plastic mirrors. If you can get past the mirrors, that is a good looking truck.

    turn signals

Also, it is not un-heard of for the wiring through the column to get pinched and create a short-circuit.

Fuel Level Gauge No Longer Working

Were it me, I would eliminate the gauge wiring from the FSV and route it through a SPDT toggle-switch, thus eliminating any problems with the FSV from the equation. My switch is located beside the driver-seat, next to the manual fuel-valves. Longer wires could be spliced on and the switch...

Fuel Filter light front tank only

I didn't know these trucks even had a fuel-filter light.

    turn signals

Smoke coming from under the steering-wheel is why I sought a better solution. My truck and trailers have so many brake-lights/signals that I have also built a turn-signal relay box with individual fuses for each light and tandem relays for each side/direction. As deaf as I am, I can hear...

    Manual 6-port valve

Be aware that those "stacked" valves are bad for the stem to snap. I have a sack-full of broken ones in my shop; hence is why I will only ever use single-function valves. With enough age and use, sometimes even the single ones snap. Also, that same valve can be had from sources that...

    turn signals

One important question when having signal problems is in what condition is any trailer wiring --- on the truck, of course. Also, more than once, I have seen double-element 1157-type bulbs short internally and cause all sorts of weird occurences. Also, everything LCAM already said. The...

    driveshat tube thickness??

Drive-shafts are much thinner than most would think. Some years ago, we were eliminating the worn-out constant-velocity joints from both ends of a drive-shaft and could not come up with the diameter we needed. What we did have was a galvanized chain-link-fence post that WAS just what we...

How did you adhere this stuff to the evaporator-box ?? Did you also wrap the accumulator ?? Many thanks.

    Help identifying Autometer tach

I always wondered if that could be done with that type of tach. The VDO tach in the wife's truck connects inside the alternator. I just took a better look at my tach and it registers to 6 ( X 1000 ), instead of 5 like yours. The model number is 2308; I don't know where my mind came up...

    Help identifying Autometer tach

I would have to look at mine to be certain, but I believe mine is labeled "AUTO GAGE"; that is what AUTOMETER used to be; same company, just a different name. I bet that sender will read; just zip-tie it to any alternator, gas or diesel, and jumper the HOT and GROUND; crank up the engine and...

    A/C RECIRCULATION QUESTIONS

So it is sucking air IN through the center-hump vent where heat blows OUT when the heater is ON, right ?? Also, thanks for verifying the vacuum-solenoid action.

    Help identifying Autometer tach

As best I can tell from your pictures, I have had that same tach for decades. I ?think? it is a model #9003, maybe. That sender straps on the alternator, astraddle the seam, in about the ten-o'clock position. When mine resided on the original 1G alternator, the sender was clamped in...

    A/C EVAPORATOR BOX INSULATION

Some months ago, there was a discussion about insulating the outside of the A/C box and someone posted pictures and a link to some wonderful shiny stuff. Since then, I have suffered a computer crash and change-over to a new computer, thus losing all my saved goodies. It would be...

    A/C RECIRCULATION QUESTIONS

Okay, it is my understanding that "NORM" A/C is drawing hot outside air from the cowl, through the evaporator, and then into the cab. "MAX" A/C closes a vacuum-operated door and then re-circulates the in-cab air through the evaporator and back into the cab. My question is --- from where...

Good place to tap into for key on 12v power?

If using one of those pictured fuse-taps, ascertain which side of the fuse is the "COLD" side and put the tap on that side. Otherwise, you will need to fuse the added circuit CLOSE to the source. I have seen many instances where there was a fuse-tap on BOTH blades of a fuse.

    Stock 6.9 IDI acceleration.

We always load and haul HEAVY, and usually over long distances. Our experiences with the ZF transmission (way back when these trucks were nearly brand-new) have been less than stellar, having a few catastrophic failures. The old 4-speeds will last forever.

Good place to tap into for key on 12v power?

There should be a couple of UN-FUSED key-ON=HOT terminals in the fuse-block. It has been my observation that FORD wired these trucks as fire-traps; I do not recommend taxing the already over-taxed system any more than it already is. What I did (before I completely eliminated the...

    BAD PULL TO THE RIGHT

Just about every twin-I-beam truck that I have ever driven has a constant pull to the right, regardless of how many shiny new parts are under there; many of them did it straight from the factory. Of course, you should make sure nothing dangerous is amiss and the list of possibles is long...

Corrosion in the front radiator support. How common is it?

Every one I see has big holes rusted through under the radiator. It is a simple matter to re-fabricate better than the mud-trap/salt-trap that Ford provided. There is no good reason for that area to be made like it is.
