So, the other day I replaced my PS V-Belt. It was a Dayco Gold 'top cog' that was many years old and just tired.
Replaced it with a $20.00 Napa (Gates) belt with the teeth/lugs on the inner V-part of the belt...son of a b*tch if it isn't squealing like a pig, and I adjusted (snugged it) twice...
Well how about that...60 degrees today and the AC clutch engaged!
Good thing as It was pouring rain and needed to defog the windshield!
It is cycling though, so a recharge will be in order come Spring time ;Sweet
So far four years on my Spectra aluminum HC. Build quality looked ok, vs the brass copper unit I recall the fit in the hole was a little snug.
It's a AutoZone or Advance Auto, think it has a limited lifetime warranty.
Ok, so as I recal reguardless where the vent selector was I always had to push the AC-dash button...AC never automatically came on when I moved the lever to "defrost", I still had to press the blue AC dash button.
Stopped by my AC guys shop and he said, either the pressure switch is protecting...
Well, I'll be heading outside to do the "defrost lever" experiment.
It's going up to 33 today and 56 tomorrow.
Just curious as I mentioned prior, on my '1988' the AC clutch always engaged, the truck still has the OE compressor but I honestly can't say I ever used it in these sub freezing...
Ok, so it's 5 degrees outside but this is the first time in 27 years I pressed in the pretty little blue AC button and the AC Clutch didn't engage...WTF!
BTW, during the winter months does anyone remove their AC belt?
I'm thinking 'maybe' the oil cooler O-rings as when the engine is warm/hot they expand, leak stops. This is how mine started to happen, the colder it was (cold snap hit) the o-rings shrunk and weeped.
Could also be the back of the valve gasket.
If it's the power steering box 'maybe' leaking...
So far so good on the radiator.
With the recent cold snap on a cold morning start before the thermostat opened I had a slight pressure weep at the upper rad hose into the water pump.
Fuel filter plug is dry but it still rubs me the wrong way I had to plug that hole...now I got a unsightly...
With my recent radiator replacement, fuel filter head leaking and just yesterday replacing the center driveshaft carier bearing and a u-jount...my neighbor sees me struggling with poor health and shaky hands to perform these tasks. So just earlier he says to me..."Ray I think it's time for a new...
I've always snugged them evenly and real good...Blue Loctite is a good idea but, they never came loose.
If too tight could the U-bolt distort the harden bearing cap?
Done deal, and I also replaced the very rear U-joint too. Suprised that all the different carrier bearings I inspected none were a 'sealed'bearing.
Oh well the Federal Mogul carrier bearing has a three year warranty and the Moog U-joint is lifetime.
This is the first time I used heat to...
Hey fellas...anyone know the inside bearing diameter of the support bearing on a 1988 F250 supercab 4×4?
I can't locate my recipe and need the diameter before I can order it. Parts houses are listing three sizes.
I have not removed the drive shaft yet!
Thanks!
Since I bought my truck new (1988) last winter was the first time it got cold enough to where my fuel gelled.
Thanks to Mel's suggestion, I put a heat gun blowing on the hard line going into the IP and the IP then covered the engine with a blanket...after ten minutes she fired up and I ran to...
Once the drives shaft is out I use a cutoff wheel to get through the outside metal casing then a saw to get through the rubber insulator, then back to the cutoff wheel for the outer and inner bearing race. To drive the new bearing back on have a perfect diameter section and length of metal fence...
WTF...why is this bearing NOT greaseable?
I just get done replacing a radiator, then f*cking plug the leaking fuel filter heater connection and now....I'm hearing that dang center support carrier bearing just starting to hum.
Since 1988 (new) this bearing just doesn't seem to last as long and...
The highlighted is exactly what a call to Advance Auto Parts Customer Service told me..."as long as you're the original owner, the part has a lifetime warranty" Of course if a Deer antler goes through it well, that's another story.
I'll respectfully disagree, My local parts houses see me, they know me...I've never had any problems even returning lifetime brake pads or shoes many times that were years old and wore out. Same thing with a ten year old water pump, alternator and air pump...local Pep Boys honored the warranty...
Thanks fellas,
I used the original JB Weld with a 100/w dome light a few inches away...it's warm a comfy and should help with cure time.
After the fact I did find Weld Stick (putty) that may have been an option too.
Anyway, I used a 1/2" NPT Allen plug vs the stick up typical NPT plug. It...
