big block chevy fueling for your IDIT+!!

Never done one of those aggravating things? Where the rod wants to slide down and you can't get the new pump in place? Until some old timer tells you about the bolt trick that holds the rod up in place. The good old days.

big block chevy fueling for your IDIT+!!

CLB I see some quotes in your signature. One says "if it's made in china IT WILL FAIL" That is the only problem I see with this big block pump conversion, if the new big block pumps are of lousy quality. If you guys really get into this, you might have to tear them apart before you even run...

Can I remove just this dash panel?

Here's a good video on how to repair it.

Is it a problem to have the positive and negative cables run side by side with no air gap?

All fuses have a common problem; Voltage drop. A very good reason not to use them in the cable to the starter. If it eases your mind, you do have a fuse of sorts, seen it happen a couple of times. If you have a dead short on one of the large cables, it usually melts the lead terminal right...

FIXED (I think): Solenoid feed wires hot, and voltage drop

I do not know, but it works good and I watch that when I hit the button. That's how I know all the glowplugs are drawing power :)

FIXED (I think): Solenoid feed wires hot, and voltage drop

P.S. Listening to some of the others on this board through the years, it sounds like Ford in the later models ditched the two yellow wires and went with one large wire. I do not see a problem with this as long as you route it carefully, since it will be hooked directly to the battery. If you...

FIXED (I think): Solenoid feed wires hot, and voltage drop

If you can believe my dash gauge, when I glow my plugs on my 89, the dash gauge drops to about 8v. I am still using the two original yellow wires to feed the relay. But I did bypass the factory wiring plug. If you are still using that factory plug near the pass side valve cover, I would cut...

    Serp belt dual alts??

It is true, you only use the winch occasionally more than likely, and it needs short periods of high current. Another battery would probably fit the bill better than a 2nd alternator turning all the time unneeded. If you drive the truck a lot, the single alternator would have plenty of time to...

    Seriously Dumb Rear Spring Question

I think he is talking about the wing that sticks out and hits the rubber bumper. On my 89 it is stacked with the lift blocks under the spring, on top of the axle. If you are stacking blocks, make sure the bumper block or the one with the wing is as high as you can get it so it's closer to the...

    1992 F450 rebuild 7.3L idi

I have never seen it. Just going by what was said on this board for years, and the hundreds of threads on "what coolant to run in my idi", "what are SCA's ","You had better use test strips", etc. True I haven't seen many threads on it lately.

    1992 F450 rebuild 7.3L idi

If that was me, I still wonder about that. There was all this cavitation problem that the 7.3 engines had that supposedly the 6.9 engines never had, because the factory bored the block out to achieve the larger cubes.

    1992 F450 rebuild 7.3L idi

I think it was Agnem or someone who said the down pipe on these factory turbos looked like it was ran over with a forklift before they put it on. Then someone had a picture of one, and it really did look like the factory took a perfectly good piece of exhaust pipe, and ran over it with a...

1991 F250 4wd automatic diesel ignition switch woes

Something you can try is pull the key out and flood where it goes in with wd 40. Then work the key back and forth, see if it loosens up. WD 40 is a poor lubricant, but it flows down in places that are hard to get to, and it does tend to loosen up and rejuvenate the old stiff factory grease...

6.9 no start below 60 degrees or so

Along with adding some fuel, it lets the fast idle solenoid extend. It's strong enough to hold the throttle open, but not strong enough to open it by itself. I have to ask the original thread starter; How long are you holding the glowplug button down? Or are you just pushing it and releasing...

    1992 F450 rebuild 7.3L idi

I do not know the sources of parts for these old engines, but the word "new" in the automotive world lately can be a bad word. New parts seem to fail on a regular basis. If the original stock parts are in good shape after being inspected, I would keep on running them. These engines are known...

    1992 F450 rebuild 7.3L idi

They complain that the 7.3 has thin cylinder walls from the factory. And you want to bore it? Does it really need it? Try not to bore it if it doesn't need it.

    Oversized pistons not stamped.

Every picture has a dot extension on the end of it. What you are emailing and trying to upload is just a bunch of 1's and zero's, the extension determines what program is needed to reconstruct the picture. If your phone is sending the picture in some weird format that the site doesn't support...

Wire to temperature sensor on a 1983 6.9.

Officially the diagrams show the wire being a red with black dots wire. Looks like they had a separate wire and bulb on the early trucks. Later on they tied the overheat sensor into the temp gauge wiring. It pegged the gauge when the overheat switch activated.

    Drum brake hold-down spring orientation

Yes, that common brake design lets the complete brake assembly "twist around" when you apply the brakes. That movement jams the rear shoe against the drum and the heavy pin at the top. They call that "servo action" and is why drum brakes take less pedal pressure than disc brakes. And that is...

    Drum brake hold-down spring orientation

Is your "hook" that spring engages with in good shape and not bent? This is a hokey setup isn't it? I suppose it's a Bendix design or one of those companies. Ford never seemed to do their brakes in house very much.

    70 amps alternator wire question

Like was said, 14 volts is good when the engine is running. Charging more or less when you rev the engine is normal, the alternator puts out more power when it's turned faster. If you are sitting there at a constant rpm, and the lights are flickering, then that is usually a bad connection with...

    70 amps alternator wire question

I added one before on a very rusty northern truck I was working on. But the factory did not ground them with a wire, they are grounded through the mounting brackets to the block.

    IDI E Fuel pump Info

I have been saying in a couple of posts that I have been doing fine with these cheap little pumps. Well, I am here to say after using them a couple of years, it's not worth it. They work fine, when they work. I just can't get them to last. The facet version of this same pump may be fine, but...
