    Tach cutting in and out

You said you tried a junkyard instrument cluster that had the same symptoms. Is that truck still in the salvage yard? You could remove the TCM and try to replace the one you have before buying an aftermarket unit.

    Tach cutting in and out

You mentioned that you had the gauges rebuilt. Who rebuilt them, did you remove the entire instrument cluster and send it in for a rebuild?

    Typ4 logger cam shaft

Here's an old thread on the R&D and Typ4 cams. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/r-d-vs-type4-cam.75543/ Apparently, you can get an OE IDI cam reground to the Typ4 specs here: https://www.oregoncamshaft.com/ I don't have either in my 6.9l.

Here are two companies that make slip-on seat covers. Wet Okole Carhartt Seatcovers If you want to spend a bit more and get seat covers that are secured with hog rings you can order from here. They can make the seat covers by year, make and model. Or you can remove the original seat covers...

What would you get with $50 for your IDI?

It might be a bit more than $50 but I'd get a White Rodgers 586-902 glow plug relay. Check it out! :hail https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1795443-white-rodgers-glow-plug-relay-install.html

While the truck sits unused.. can I/should I soak the cylinders?

You could remove the CDR valve and clean it in addition to doing the ol' ATF trick.

    need help

^^^ THIS^^^ Our 6.9l and 7.3l ISIs will eat WMO or ATF like it's a snack. They'll eat WVO too. To make BD you change WVO through tranesterfication.

While the truck sits unused.. can I/should I soak the cylinders?

Don't feed your truck Kroil/PB Blaster. It'll burn it for a snack. I've actually read that some folks use WD-40 instead of ether to aid in starting.

    6.9 E350 C6 to E4OD or 4R100?

^^^THIS^^^ It's a worthwhile investment for $20 or $30. I bought it before I had my VRV and C6 rebuilt. Don't forget; he who dies with the most tools wins! :sly

    6.9 E350 C6 to E4OD or 4R100?

Did you have to use a FIPL with that aftermarket controller?

    6.9 E350 C6 to E4OD or 4R100?

Make sure you get a Fuel Injection Pump Lever (FIPL) from the side of the IP when you source the transmission. It works like the VRV and vacuum modulator on the C6 trucks I had my VRV rebuilt by Nick P. on Ford Trucks Enthusiast forum. His name is genscripter there. I don't know if he's on OBs...

    Putting a turbo 6.9 IdI

Excellent! :Thumbs Up Necessity is the mother of invention. I was dumbfounded when he expected 35 psi of boost. Ford used 2 different turbos on the 6.4l PSD and VGT to eliminate turbo lag.

Starting and Trans issues after removing ambulance box

I hope you found a resolution to this. It'd definitely be a bummer if a shop made matters worse. The truck looks much better with the flat bed.

1987 6.9 IDI Losing Prime Overnight

Cranking the engine with the Schraeder valve depressed will be a better test for air intrusion. You should have a solid stream of fuel, no spitting or air. I like to bleed the injectors by the firing order. 1, 2, 7, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 My truck will usually cough on 7 and start by 3. I probably need...
