NEED HELP SHOULD I BUY ? TURBO QUESTIONS

If you’re going to factor in theoretical shop rates, don’t forget to do that with the install of a new turbo kit

    Grumpy idle noise in gear

Is the dual mass flywheel even offered anymore? I have an original one, it worked when I swapped it for a single mass, while I was putting a new transmission in my 91. But, can you go to a Ford dealership service department or a parts store and order a dual mass flywheel, or at least a clutch kit?

99% sure it's the booster. Thoughts?

Yeah, no you’re right. Dana made the axles… except for the Sterling, obviously. The second gen era, is where the brakes come off so easily. And the newer Dodges, but after 02 they switched to AAM axles… Dodge and Ford both got some say with how their axles were made… the heavy 3/4 tons and...

99% sure it's the booster. Thoughts?

On these. The engineers were at least awake when they designed them for the trucks. I assume the vans are similar. TCM forklifts by far have the stupidest drum brakes ever… one wheel cylinder per brake shoe… and the way they’re designed, they can’t be backed off. Everything has tension on it...

That would’ve been my first guess, some of the oil ports are the same size. Others still are 1/8” NPT.

Not many people are in the market for something like that, probably fewer still in your area. You’d get more inquiries if it was listed on Facebook Marketplace. Or, well, this might not be a thing over there, but in the Plains/Midwest there is a platform called Nextech Classifieds. It’s like a...

NEED HELP SHOULD I BUY ? TURBO QUESTIONS

I don’t have anything against buying a complete used ATS kit, and rebuilding the turbo, and get new seals, bolts, etc. Then you’d have a turbo kit that can compete for just a little less money, and a little more time. And potentially a little more knowledge about turbos. There’s not a wrong way...

My 91 has these as block drains. Don’t know if that’s factory, I’ve never seen them on another IDI, but they’re nice.

At any rate they probably aren’t worse… Hard to get better than ARP Custom Age 625 studs but then again, just about any head stud will hold down fine, talk about the tensile strength of these, but the stock bolts don’t snap. The threads in the block would get messed up before you had a stud...

    Grumpy idle noise in gear

I think that’s all. I’ve never heard that it causes damage, it is just the way that engine vibrations transfer through the aluminum case of the transmission, with a single mass flywheel that doesn’t dampen said vibrations. I’ve done some poking around, right now I’m running 4 quarts of...

I think this is it It’s a nice truck and at just under $5k on the west coast, I would think it to be a reasonable price. Not high, not low. But steady, probably not the kind of truck you’d have to worry about much. Too bad I’m in the Midwest, if I were near I’d be interested… but I definitely...

I wouldn’t be afraid of it, as long as it’s the thicker casting. I plug my 7.3 IDI in once it gets about -10* F (usually, but I’ve not done so the last couple times it was that cold) What’s your engine serial number?

1993 7.3 idi na when hits high rpm fast, it dies

The injectors aren’t always firing, and since there isn’t any real pressure on the return side, that should give it a chance for air to get in. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I’ve had particularly bad return lines affect how the engine runs. The early type return lines seem like they’d be a bit worse...

    Grumpy idle noise in gear

Typically rollover noise doesn’t bother me, it hasn’t in my other trucks. But in my 91 service truck, it’s REALLY loud, compared to any other ZF5 I’ve been around. It had a ZF5 with a bad 5th gear, that put out about the normal noise level. Then I put this one in. It shifts beautifully, nothing...

1993 7.3 idi na when hits high rpm fast, it dies

There is a line that runs from the #1 injector return cap that goes to the filter head, in factory form. I always delete that line on my trucks, because it can allow air into the inlet lines in certain few conditions, especially at high rpms. There is actually a TSB to remove that line anyways...
