Need to replace drain plug on 1356 t-case. Galvanic corrosion?

I think they started using Magnesium because it is lighter and stronger. It’s actually in more places in a vehicle than you might think. When I was on the FD we had training on it, because water+mag=REALLY BAD. If I remember (this was 15+ years ago) there are at least a couple BMW models that...

    '87-'91 steering column options?

Our 73 was similar, the key was on the dash, and the autos had the PRNDL on the column, not in the cluster, just like the 74-91 vans. The later vans have the key on the column though…

6.9 IDI to 7.3 Powerstroke Conversion

Also, if i remember right, @IDIoit worked on a Brick that someone has started a 7.3PSD swap on, there is a thread, I just remember it took a lot more work than one would think…

Using mech fuel pump as an air compressor??

They use a York A/C compressor, which is a piston type compressor, that has crankcase with oil in it. The Ford round A/C compressor won’t work, since it is lubricated by the oil in the refrigerant.

Does a 7.3 powerstroke need a certain amount of oil pressure in order to start

If I remember correctly, the HUEI system must see 500PSI of High Pressure oil to fire the injectors. This is not the oil pressure that runs the oil pressure gauge. That comes from the low pressure system / pump. This is the oil pressure being generated by the HPOP.

    Someone go get it!!!

True, However, I have a a couple of friends that sell used cars (and camper vans now) who are most definitely the exception to this. Thes sell used cars, they are not used car salesmen. LOL

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

Correct, The Brick speedometer (87-91) is still cable driven. There is a VSS in the rear differential , but it is only used for the RABS. The E4OD Bricks have a VSS that plugs into the speedometer port in the transmission/transfer case and the speedometer cable attaches to that VSS. This is...

    Who is the moderator?

I think I’m the only one that is one here on a regular basis. However, on the weekends I do not get on here very often, due to having other responsibilities. I’m not sure why the forum does that, but occasionally when a picture is posted as a response, it wants approval. Once I am logged in...

So what did you do with your truck today?

That is an 87, early 88 panel. They had a separate button for A/C (the little square in the middle). I think they tried that im most of the vehicles around that time frame., I had a friend that had a Ford f-in Ranger from about that same time, and it had the A/C button. I remember seeing an...

Low vacuum warning switch: needed for HVAC?

It doesn’t need to work for the HVAC to work… but the HVAC needs to have a leak free vacuum system to work… So I’m with CLB, plug it at the “splitter” on the firewall and move on.

    2001 7.3 trans blew now won't start

That heater can short regardless of ambient temps. It is a common issue on the 7.3 PSD trucks, the PCM and Fuel Heater are on the same fuse… so the heater shorts, pops the fuse and the PCM is now dead. Same thing on the IDI trucks, the TECA and Fuel Heater are on the same fuse. It pops, and...

Project Thread: 1986 F250 “Farm Truck #1” Build Thread

Here is the most honest answer to that question. As long as all 8 return to the tank, it really doesn’t matter how the lines are routed. Ive seen them have all 4 on one side connected together, and then tee in at the back and go to the tank, I’ve seen a crossover in front of the intake hole...

@greenskeeper and @frankenwrench ***EDITED BELOW MESSAGE TO CORRECT THE MISTAKE IN THE TROLLING SENTENCE*** I have just spent the last few minutes cleaning up this thread. Personal attacks are not allowed. What might appear as trolling repeatedly is also not allowed. It stops NOW, or...

    IDI marine engine questions

The block should be the same. The heads should probably be also. The water cooled manifolds should just be an all external bolt-on application. IP may have a different calibration, but again, that is bolt on. My guess is they used the standard IDI drillings and mounted their accessories on...

    6.0 on black diesel?

I have actually only heard of a couple of people trying WMO in a 6.0. Many have done it in a 7.3 PSD, but the injectors are more forgiving in a 7.3. I have a 6.0 and a barrel of WMO at home that we run in our IDI’s…. We are currently between IDI, and the oil will just sit there. For me, the...

    Anti Gel Product (Howes)

I normally used power service. I remember someone on here years ago, swore by Howes. They were a OTR Driver…. but the thing they did say about Howes is, they never gelled up, but you had to use the Howes in EVERY TANK of fuel, year around. With the PS stuff, you could go all summer and use...

how much time before 7.3 is warm? outside temp now 10*C

As others have said, it all depends on outside temperature. On my 6.0 Excursion (I know, not and IDI, but still a big V-8 diesel) that has had the EGR Deleted for at least a decade, is, if it is below about 40 degrees F, it WILL NOT see normal operating temperature. I’ve had times when it is...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Our 73 F-250 had that setup it was in the angled part below the drivers seat. You could reach down between the seat and door and switch tanks. I’m not sure what they did for the gauge.

    Cup holders

The way I’ve always looked at a forum (this one included) is like a bunch of like-ish minded people sitting around a campfire talking. You will have conversation about the subject you are all like-ish minded about, but that conversation will wander on and off topic…. This is part of what makes...

    Could this be the solution?

With the sit for a few minutes and then it will restart sounds like a couple of things.. One, with the previous contamination, you could have chunks of stuff in the bottom of the tank, that get sucked up against the infamous showerhead, and stops fuel flow. While the engine is off and there...

    F700 Hood Latch Handle ?

That kinda reminds me of our 79 Fairmont Wagon we had. From the factory, the hood latch was in a little recess above the drivers headlight. You popped the hood with that and then reach in the center and released the secondary latch.
