a tale of delphi glow plugs (with happy ending)

About three years ago, when uhaul was clearing out all their stock, I bought a set of glowplugs from them on ebay. I thought u haul only used motorcraft plugs, so I didn't care that the brand was not listed in the ad. When they arrived I saw that they were Delphi brand so I got on here and...

Road trip wreck, need help from you west coast folks

We made it back home to TN Thursday night. Total trip 6187 miles. I was unprepared for how little signal I would have on California 1. @ Asmith, I didn't even see your message until we were in San Diego. Big Sur was beautiful, but that mountain kept me out of signal for the entire time, and...

Road trip wreck, need help from you west coast folks

Asmith is right. Hume has a great shop. One of their mechanics was a former mercedes tech as well. We put the car on the lift and did a lot of measuring. It looks like the frame bend is confined to the passenger side, with the deformation on the drivers side coming from body panel shift. I...

Road trip wreck, need help from you west coast folks

We are camped on the open desert tonight outside of Vegas after spending my morning with insurance chaos and afternoon with Zion national park visitor chaos. Damn this car sure still drives well. 75 mph down interstate 15 and the ac still blows cold even though the accumulator is now turned...

Road trip wreck, need help from you west coast folks

Are you in San Francisco? Sacramento seems far, but San Fran is doable. My son is super excited about the idea of actually seeing the six door. We have been following your thread together. The blue 85 you posted seems promising. As for looking at car, what I am interested in is rust. My...

Road trip wreck, need help from you west coast folks

I am currently on a family road trip cross country in the 85 benz. All was going well with only minor issues until we tried to go see the Glen Canyon Dam in Page, AZ. Had a rental car full of Chinese tourists pull out in front of me there and the car took a good hit to the front passenger...

    Looking at a 2001

Dads isn't one owner, he bought it in 99 with 80k on it. It now has 180. It seems from reading that this model was pretty solid. I read somewhere that these years only came with 3.73 gears in the diesel. Is that correct?

    Looking at a 2001

Not me, my dad. He currently has a 95 with the zf5, but the clutch is giving his knees issues so he is looking to move to an automatic. He is currently looking at this one :http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/5675863040.html. I know nothing about the 4R100. Is it a decent tranny? I have...

    Converting my 1955 GM Coach to a DD50 - Seeking RTS NOVA/Flxible Metro/Neoplan

If standing height is your limiting issue, maybe you could pick this custom bus up and finish it off. I like the look of the raised roof, but every time I go look at something like this it ends up being a good idea with piss poor execution. http://nashville.craigslist.org/rvs/5616192144.html

I upgraded dump trucks (bought yet another IDI) so my 1310 is for sale. Also have another dump bed that I was planning to put on an 87 cab and chassis I have. Don't know if there is any interest here or not, but I would give a deal to an oilburner...

Have you tried grounding the white wire to see if the solenoid closes then? That would isolate switch issue from controller issue. I do not believe light has any bearing on operation of unit.

    Front Tank Volume

My recollection is that the automatic transmission trucks had a 21 gallon tank and the manual ones have a 19. Can't tell you why or even where I got that piece of information.

    9.00-16 tires, anyone run them?

Been a while since I towed with bias, but my memory is that they are more firm than radials when towing. I was disappointed with the handling when we switched to radials on our 1974 suburban tow rig. We switched it over to radials in the late 80's or early 90s.
