    Project Big Red

I want to reiterate an earlier post about your steering. Have you checked the alignment? That could cause it to wander, not return to center, and could give you fits with sway towing. and Heath is right on. When they come back on the road after this much work there are always bugs to work...

    Failing brake booster?

Your description sounds just like my truck when my booster was bad. Final check would be to isolate the booster and try to draw a vaccum on it. it should hold until the pedal is pushed if good.

    Project Big Red

This build is really fun to watch come together. Thanks for posting so much. Tip for next time you do window motor rebuild, the door is dimpled for drilling so that you can drill one (or maybe two can't remember) holes in the inner panel and get at all three bolts that bolt the regulator to the...

    speedo drive gear?

The speedo gears are dirt cheap. I just bought several and experimented until my speedo matched my gps. If memory serves me there are 4 or 5 gear options from 14 or so to 21 teeth. The others are in the toolbox for future projects. If your speedo is running low get one with fewer teeth, if...

Take off in 4-low when pulling heavy?

I use 4 low to get going when heavy often, but have never tried to shift out of it on the fly. Remember you can roll through all your gears in low range. I just find a spot where it is level or down hill, put it in high range and off you go. I have 3.55s, a zf-42 and have many times had WAAYYY...

In need of new back glass

Took the easy way out. $500 cash got new windshield and sliding back glass installed in my driveway. Its amazing the difference a new windshield makes. Mine had been broken for 10 years and was delaminating. Now suddenly I can't "see" my windshield anymore. Its just the road.

Temperature gauge is out of control

I believe you actually have two senders in this model, one for the guage and an overtemp sender. The overtemp is an on off sender that should turn on the engine light and max out the temp guage when it hits a preset temp. You might look for that sender and disconnect it and see if that helps. I...

In need of new back glass

It didn't occur to me that the winshield guys do back glass. DUH! That will finally get me off dead center on the windshield. It has been cracked from one side to the other for 10 years and I have never gotten around to replacing it. Truck deserves some new glass.

In need of new back glass

My wife managed to put the handle of a waste pump through the back glass today. Does anyone have a brand they love? It seems like there is a lot out there and I am interested in something that is good quality but not outrageous. Thanks

    Hauling an IDI

What towcat said, you need 6 lug 5000 pound axles. Remember you haul the truck plus the weight of the trailer. 3500 pound axles would be light for that.

    Delphi Glow Plugs???

This does not seem like good advice to me. The glow plug controller senses resistance in the glow plug circuit as a whole. Mixing brands increases the likelyhood of different resistances among glowplugs which will lead to premature failure in whichever one has greatest resistance. I have never...

    Delphi Glow Plugs???

I had a set of delphi in one of mine. Lasted 2 years and when I pulled them three were swelled and broke off. Saga here: http://www.oilburners.net/threads/a-tale-of-delphi-glow-plugs-with-happy-ending.78075/#post-923797

    Wrecked my truck today :(

Only ways to stop that sway once it starts is applying trailer brakes only, or hold wheel steady and slowly accelerate. The latter option works, but only if you have room in front of you and often the swaying starts when you start to slow down for a reason.

    New Glow Plug Time...

The noise you hear is the fender mounted relay turning off. Not possible to say whether your fender relay is getting intermittent signal from the controller, or whether its going bad. It is cheap and easy to get to though, so replacing it first would be relatively painless. I don't know the...

    New Glow Plug Time...

Factoids for your decision, nothing scientific, just what happened to me. One of my 7.3 controllers crapped out last month and took out all 8 motorcraft glowplugs with it. My only 6.9 controller crapped out about a year ago, but all the glowplugs in it are fine.

If it were mine, I would remove the trim. Throw it behind the seat in case the full restoration bug bites you at some later date.

Need help with id on auxillary transmission

this truck is listed as having a two speed transmission. Must be a gearvendors or a DNE2. Can yall read or recognize the emblem under the diesel emblem? I am trying to figure out which it is before driving all the way over there. http://tricities.craigslist.org/cto/5967389411.html
