burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

I dumped a whole bottole of Howes into my 1/3 full tank. The exhaust is cleaning up nicely. I have almost 2000 lbs of weight in the bed right now and I have been running it WOT as often as I can on the diesel and Howes mix. The blue haze is almost gone at idle, power is back to normal. EGT lower...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

7/8 plugs were fried with white and black carbon built up on them. Im dont with experimenting with oil. Thing smokes out interesections idling there, starting to run rough. ran the tank down to 5-8 gallons of oil, filled up 15 gallon of diesel. running better and more power, less smoke...

    Fuel filter heater?

^yes a heater over the IP would be ideal! PS plugged in the morning for an hour and it fired right off. But again, 60F outside, probably wont light off plugged in during the winter if I run this thick of blend. First plan of approach is to thin my mix down, as its unnaceptable to have to...

    Fuel filter heater?

nice! those are a great price! 1/3 of other brands that look the same. I like the lace up deal. Im not running diesel fuel right now, running virgin 15w40 oil as fuel with various blends of gasoline and kerosene. My latest blend was only 10% RUG and the truck did NOT want to start in 65F...

    Fuel filter heater?

Wrap filter seems to be the easiest. I found a company that makes them, 1/4" diameter with an 1/8" NPT head, 2" long with 118W output That is plenty small for that, however needs a minimum 10 orders to make them. ONly thing I dont like about the wrap around heaters is 1) expensive 2) have to...

    Fuel filter heater?

oo, i just found this. Screw in immersion heater. However, 66$ is still too expensive for me :P http://www.omega.com/googlebase/product.html?pn=EMH-060-120V&gclid=CNXy0r_Kss8CFRMUGwodafMAPQ

    Fuel filter heater?

I have long ago deleted my stock fuel filter head heater due to leaks. In its palce i have (i believe) an M12 plug. Wondering If can take that out, or put a recuding adapter in there, and run a little rod heater directly into there? Or can i drill the venry center of it and put something like...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

well, that little bit of kerosene definitly wasnt enough, truck would not even think of starting this morning...Need to fix my bock heater plug tonight, plug it in and see what happens. Thing is though, I dont have the filter head heater anymore..so if thats very thick in there..it will still be...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

wow, went to start the truck just now, got in to work at 8, currently 3pm, 67F out. the thing did NOT want to start. multiple glow and cranks, sounded like it was only firing on 1 cyl. finally lit off and ran very smooth. I think this batch is less than 10% gasoline and it is much too thick. I...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

Im considering just thinning with Kerosene instead, may cost me 5% more but no octane at least.. If I can have $20 invested/55g gal drum of oil-which would make 60-62 gallons of fuel-thinning 10% with Kero...that would be great. Since I already got 5 gallons of gasoline, I will try making a...

    Building an IDI for Nitrous

what IDIoit said. its used to keep things cool, the transformation from a liquid to gas takes energy out of the combustion process, adiabatic expansion and therefore cooling. Will keep temps down on an NA but not much else.

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

Hmm, drove in town a bunch over lunch hour...seems to be driving perfectly fine now, the same as on D2. I did turn off cold advance, which the W85 seemed to like better. No weird starting ot bucking when turning or changing gears, normal smoke amounts..should be good. 20% seems to be the...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

blended up a W80 mix last nigth and filled up approx 30 gallons of it. had maybe 10 gallons of my old W85 mix in the tank. I dont think it likes the W80 very much.. so on W85. started like on normal diesel. I had air intrusion like symptoms on start up, foudn last nigth shrader valve was...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

yes truck was timed to 8.5 deg before. Blended in more gasoline to my remianing batch to get approx 20% dilution. Consistency is definitly closer to diesel now rather than a light oil. This is all 15w40 I am working with so definitely thicker than a 5w30. WIll fill up with this new mixture...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

i have my cold advance on a switch, it seems to like the cold advance being on the whole time. Makes sense since oil burns slower... I also think it wants a bit more dilution. W85 is still too thick, definitly thicker than diesel as I see it in my barrel, and when i changed my fuel filter. I...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

sounds good. SO i had about hafl a tank of diesel left, and i topped it off with my W85 mix. Truck sounds very ncie at idle, smoother, deepier and steadier. I cant tell but.i think..i think I may have more smoke crusiing around now. I mean..the truck has always smoked, regardless of injectors...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

blended my first batch of W85 last night. Im going to add another 2.5 gallons of RUG into it to make it W80 as it seems to be the magic number people seem to like. I have 2 barrels at home, one is my blending barrel other is my pickup barrel...work told me I got another 10 barrels awaiting me...

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

thanks for the input guys. the pressure gauge is a great idea. I too realized this mid stroke pumping the oil straigh tinto my tank...oh my god...its not just goign to mix around that easily! hopefully can make it the 2 miles to gas station to dilute it with 20 gal regular diesel!

burning sheared synthetic oil in IDI?

So I got my 55 gal drum filled to the brim. This stuff was not even sheared. We use it purely to flush out the previous oil. So that drum is about 50% sheared oil, 50% never used clean oil. THe environment is very clean, there is no water in the system. The testing we are doing is for a very...
