Why SDs have a wimpy alternator - long post from FTE

Alternator size has never has been an issue in my SD compared to my OBS I've always had the PCM ground wire to the GPR on a switch in the cab. Only use glow plugs below 40F and when I do use them, kill the power just prior to cranking to save battery strain. Never use them for "emissions"...

    please give me advice

What year truck? The PCM grounds the relay when it wants to energize the glow plugs. So to make it "push button" you would need to wire the relay ground through the switch and then to ground. What type of miss? At idle? Under load?

    Picked up my E99 zf6

crew cab with a blow gasser might be your best bet...as you have everything there to make the complete swap

Are Motorcraft Beru glow plugs still the best?

Did you measure voltage drop across the "new" relay? You can also look for "open" glow plugs by probing the harness at the valve cover. An open reading would indicate a completely failed glow plug, however I have also seen glow plugs with the correct resistance reading but when pulled from the...

Tach CPS trick only works up to 2001, does an Edge console help?

Sometimes you'll get a P0284 code with CPS failure.

    96 First Powerstroke

Majority of the time the harnes fails at the connection at the valve cover gasket...it loosens and then draws too many amps and melts the harness at the connector then the glow plugs are energized. 50 cent mod can help prevent that on certain model years.

OEM for anything engine related, especially UVCH. Personally if they look good when doing the glow plugs, I would leave well enough alone.

    blown fuse#22 no start

WTS light when keyed to on? Fuse #22 could be the fuel bowl heater (can't recall exactly) which conveniently also powers the PCM. The heater shorts out and blows the fuse cutting power to the PCM. The fuel bowl heater is worthless IMO, as I have ran without it down to -20F without issues.

    96 First Powerstroke

common leak points are the fuel bowl itself (corrosion), various sensors on the fuel bowl, fuel pump, banjo fittings, fuel lines....quite extensive as you can see. Best bet is to clean the valley of the engine, start it up and start looking. Extremely small leaks can be detected by sprinkling...

96 f350 rear fuel tank skid plate and tank straps

tossed the tank "skid plates" long ago. I believe they helped speed up the rusting process. I used spectra tank for both the rear and midship tanks.

    96 First Powerstroke

The steering box has nothing to do with an alignment. These trucks are notorious for a sloppy steering box over time, which results in "dead steering" when turning the wheel to the left or right. Tightening up the adjustment eliminates the slop in the steering box itself... just don't go too far...

    Whats it worth?

look for a vehicle outside of CA, even it you have to drive/fly in or ship it to where you are at in CA a vehicle is worth whatever someone will pay for it.

    96 First Powerstroke

the steering box can be "adjusted" to eliminate slop by centering the box (wheels straight) and tightening down on the adjustment bolt until the steering won't return to center on it's own... when you get to that point back off 1/4-1/2 turn.

    Rear Diff Capacity

find the axle tag, should be located on one of the bolts on the diff cover. If it says 355 or 410 with an LS after it, then you have a limited slip differential and need the modifier. However, chances are that the LS clutches are long gone for this world if original. You can also locate the...

    fuel lines to fuel bowl?

Eliminate the braided lines and leaky quick connect fittings by cutting and flaring the metal lines, connecting them with diesel fuel rate hose and clamps

    '95 F250 7.3L shooting oil out exhaust?

injector o-rings would make the engine consume engine oil by mixing it with fuel past the failed o-ring. A telltale sign is oily diesel fuel in the fuel filter housing and obvious decline in oil level in the crankcase. Most likely it is failed turbo seals that are dumping the oil directly into...

    7.3L IDI hypermax turbo

Did you turn up the fuel to create more boost? They sort of go hand-in-hand so to speak. Also you need to be under load to produce boost. Even my PSDs won't put out much boost until they are under load, even then it's 15psi max (stock). Cruising along, level ground, steady thottle boost will...

Anyone rebuild first gen psd injectors or just go new/reman

What's the reason for replacing the injectors? If/when mine need to be replaced, I'll be going with alliant power injectors

96 powerstroke GP hollow tip stuck

I think so. Pull the shifter and then you just dump the fluid in, instead of having to find a way to pump it into the fill port on the side of the case. Some even put an extra quart in there for good measure (I don't).

How bad... is this trans leak.

flex plate original? Might be a good reason to replace that and then do the transmission seal. Neither is terribly difficult as I've removed the E4OD and transfer case without a lift on my 97

Who runs WMO on 7.3 psd?

I'd advise against it. Find an IDI powered vehicle to mess with WMO. Do you need your truck for commuting? If not, buy a beater car and save fuel that way.
