    6.9 head studs

The reasoning is the cylinders should be honed in the stress loaded condition they will be in when completely assembled. The machine shop will use 2" thick torque plates to mimic the cylinder head, then torque the bolts or studs to the proper specs and commence with boring and/or honing. This...

    6.9 head studs

Hey Guys, I'm in the process of the rebuild on my 6.9. I am going to have the cylinders lightly honed while the block is at the machine shop. I am also going to install ARP heads studs. Should I have the studs installed prior to having the cylinders honed? Thanks

Converting to cup style freeze plugs

I looked at my block today and cleaned it up, no pitting. It was old sealant I was seeing. The sealing surfaces are really good. Maybe the disc plugs will be ok and put some good sealant on them when installing them.

Converting to cup style freeze plugs

I can't answer that, as this is my first diesel and first time to deal with disk style plugs. There is some slight pitting on the ledge where the disk style plugs sit. Worried that may be an area to start leaking. Then the engine would have to come out to repair it. I don't like doing things...

Converting to cup style freeze plugs

The cup style plugs I am looking at are Dorman part # 565-027. They are brass and measure 1.500" OD on the closed end, 1.511"OD on the open end and 0.570" in height.

Converting to cup style freeze plugs

Has anyone here converted their idi to cup stylefreeze plugs? I saw a vid on YouTube using a hole saw. Looked like it did a pretty good job. The author said he "turned" down the OD just a touch to make a tight fit. I'm wondering how much material I should remove from the hole saw. I can turn it...

    Old 6.9 idi

Hey guys, I looked at the used 7.3 style rockers I got recently. They came with the pushrods. Upon comparing the push rods, the "newer" ones are longer than the stock 6.9 pushrods. Looks like close to 1/8" longer. Suggestions? Thanks

    6.9 piston ring suggestions

Ok guys, need suggestions for piston rings. 1984 6.9 with 90k miles. Doing a refresh on it. Bores are great, no taper, original crosshatch marks still there, no ring ridge, std bore. Planning to have the machine shop do a light hone while the block is in for vatting and align honing. Questions I...

    6.9 cyl head upgrades/mods

Looking for suggestions/advice on cyl head upgrades or modifications for 1984 6.9 heads. They only have 90k miles on them. No warpage or cracks. Truck has an old Banks turbo setup. Going with upgraded rockers and head studs. Getting the short block align honed and balanced, upgrading to a 12"...

front crank oil seal sleeve doesn't fit

How much too small? They are a very tight fit. I have placed balancers in my deep freeze for about an hour and used a heat gun/hair dryer to heat up the sleeve then slip it on. After getting the sleeve on I would let the balancer get to room temp before installing it on the engine. Some of the...

    Old 6.9 idi

Thanks for the input on bearings. Are there any upgrades or modifications I should consider for the heads? Heads are at the machine shop now getting checked out and vacuum tested. They are good and flat a 0.002 feeler gauge drags under the straight edge when I checked for warpage. Thanks

    Adding pyrometer to 6.9

Hello, this is the location of the pyro on my 6.9 with an old Banks system. This is right before it goes into the hot side of the turbo housing. Is this location ok or should I relocate the pyro to the exhaust manifold or weld a bung on the exhaust pipe just after the manifold connection? Want...

Can ya rebuild injectors as well? (or take a look at them and see if they are rebuildable) Or is it better to replace them? If so can you suggest a vendor and or part number?
