My first E4OD…what is the issue?

Hello everyone. 1990 F350 7.3 with a E4OD. This is my first automatic, I’ve always had ZF5’s. I’ve gone down lots of rabbit holes reading tech articles and other threads and unfortunately I just feel I have to make my own thread to try to get guidance. 1. Here goes. With the selector in DRIVE...

    Cab swap project pregaming…

Hello everyone. A few months ago I picked up a 1990 F350 with a spare cab that must have come from down south because it is absolutely flawless immaculate. The truck is a 7.3 with a E40D four-wheel-drive. The cab is not terrible, but it did sit leaning to the side for over 20 years in a farmers...

Brake lines cab and chassis vs pickup…

Hello everyone. On my 1989 F350 cab and chassis, I need to replace the brake lines upfront, and I have been looking into stainless steel kits, but I cannot find a straight answer on whether or not the cabin in chassis was in a world of its own versus a pick up frame. On my 1990 F350 pick up...

    Compression numbers

Hello everyone. After almost a year I am still trying to hunt down this partial miss. I thought it was a lazy lifter, so I replaced all 16. Also checked all the push rods, nothing bent. Most recently I did a compression test, and here you will find the numbers. The injectors are only two years...

XL to XLT Lariat cab swap!

Hello all! First and foremost I apologize if this thread is in the wrong place. My 89 F350 ( 6.9, zf5, BW1356) cab is a plain Jane XL, with manual windows and door locks, cruise control and AC. It’s heading for inner and outer rockers, cab corners, and some floor patches. The driver floor is the...

    Can’t find miss, please help!

Wow thank you for all of that information! When I replaced the lifters, I checked all the pushrods on a flat table, all rolled perfectly. No bends. How can these valves be adjusted? I thought hydraulic lifters took up any lash no matter what? Trust me, I am well versed in junk new parts out of...

    Can’t find miss, please help!

What is the best compression tester to use? I’ve read some nightmarish reviews about the most popular one on Amazon, saying it doesn’t have a check valve to hold pressure, or something like that. I can already tell you the second cylinder from the front on the driver side is the culprit. I have...

    Can’t find miss, please help!

Timing is right on the money, a very reputable member here timed it for me perfectly. Cold advance has been unhooked for quite some time now. Yes I kept driving to my destination that night. The next day it ran like nothing happened, and within a few days this partial miss appeared.

    Can’t find miss, please help!

Hello all. I’m about to rip my hair out. My 6.9 idi… Ive been dealing with this intermittent slight miss that has varied in intensity since January of this year. Right before this began, I installed a new 100cc injection pump from a very reputable shop who shall remain nameless, I don’t want to...

    Lifter replacement

Glad I seen this thread! I’m just about to order a set myself! About Laine D’s question about new pushrods... what’s the consensus on that? I reused the ones that were in the engine (6.9) but I used 7.3 rockers. So I currently have a new R&D bigger cam, original lifters and rods, comp 910...

    Lazy lifter & partial miss

I wouldn’t say it changes with RPM, it’s simply more “masked” at a higher RPM. You really can’t hear it over 2000 RPM but you can feel it doesn’t have the power it should. From idle to 1200-1500 it’s very pronounced. Sounds like a compression release Jake brake on low. It’s almost a dead miss...

    Lazy lifter & partial miss

Wow. Ok that’s pretty much spot on what I got going on. I’m sooooo happy I took the time to delete the slip fit on the turbo and installed a quick disconnect. Still not happy about ripping everything apart but as I said before, I’m over it. It is so annoying to drive I just gotta go nuclear and...

    Lazy lifter & partial miss

Hello everyone! After years of slow progress I finally completed my 6.9 and have it installed in my 89 F350 cab and chassis dump truck. ARP studs, injectors, cam, 910 springs, Bull Moose, ATS 093 with wicked wheel 2 and the big exhaust housing with the 3” slip fit I installed a quick connect...

Big radiator in place of small?

Hello all. I did something very stupid tonight. After 3 years, I lit up the 6.9 for the first time. Unfortunately I forgot to tighten the fan and it came sailing off and took out my brand new radiator. Spectra CU1165. Things are not good financially right now and I can’t afford to replace it...

    Someone had their hands here?

Hello all. Dropped the zf5 tonight in preparation of the 6.9 swap (yes the one I’ve been doing for 3 1/2 years now) and I’m a little surprised by what I found. The throw out bearing is DONE, as I knew by the noise when the clutch was depressed. The input shaft however, looks in very nice shape...

    Engine main wiring harness connector

Hello all. It appears as if the glow plug wires once melted at the main junction between the truck and the engine and I had to destroy it to get it apart for the engine swap. Thoughts? Do the individual wires come out of this connector to easily swap to another connector? Are these connectors...

Glow plug too close to turbo?

I’m using the 6.0 Powerstroke wiring harness and running the 093 factory turbo setup. I don’t like how close #7 GP is to the up pipe, its really close in my opinion. Will header wrap keep this cool enough, or should I just cut off the 6.0 plug end and replace it with a much lower profile factory...
