What mileage to expect CCLB idi turbo zf5?

I usually cruise at 65 or 70, and I do well to get get over 15. On my work commute I drive 60 and get about 16-17. When I first got the truck it got 18 at 70. I know my timing has to be off, and I have a leak in my up pipes, so I need to do some work to get it better. Many guys here have...

    Powder coating vs POR-15

I researched POR15 pretty heavily and what kept hitting me over and over is how much prep is necessary. Its certainly always best to prep well for any job, but it sounded like the entire frame would have to be bare clean metal to expect the POR to stick and keep rust away for 10-15 years. In...

    4th gear questions zf-5 speed

FWIW you can drive lots of miles just double clutching. Doing so compensates for the worn parts. I wouldn't tear a transmission apart just to fix something like that.

    Just did manual gp mod.

I don't think you will have any afterglow cycle, ever. I never have on mine anyway. With the switch YOU now tell it when to be on. Afterglow isn't necessary anyway. In summer temps I never go over 6 seconds and she fires right up. Saves wear and tear on the gps. In the colder weather I do...

    Blowing running light fuses

Well after over six months of not having any running lights I finally tracked it down. Its not that I spent that much time looking for it, though I did spend more than a few hours on several different occasions. I was busy with other things and the truck was parked most of the winter. Turned...

    Power window problem

A few months ago I finally got around to installing new rubber plugs in my driver side window motor. Now my window goes up and down great, but I know why the last one failed (before I bought the truck). The motor never kicks off... is it supposed to? When I wind up the passenger side...

Places your IDI has taken you

The only long trip I have taken in my truck was to Colorado and back, about 3000 miles round trip. 1st pic is in western Nebraska, at a rest stop. 2nd is in Wyoming, catching the first glimpse at the rockies.

    Any ideas?

My first guess would be an air leak in the fuel system. If air is seeping in it will starve the pump a little, and it'll advance timing and throttle automatically to compensate. A line that holds fuel in just fine and doesn't drip may still leak air in if its under a slight vacuum, could even...

engine knocking hard please watch videos see watya think

If there was metal in the injector I would wager that its not just stopped up, its toast. Kinda hard to tell from the way your phone picks up the sound, but it sounds like its only running on 5 or 6 cylinders. Maybe there's problems with others as well. I have deliberately run mine on 4...

    Taillights Out

Agnem told me that the ABS memory keep alive is connected into the running light circuit on these trucks. I still haven't found it to unplug it to eliminate it from my circuit, to see if its the reason fuse number 4 blows as soon as I turn the lights on. Sounds like you have a little more...

    Wanted: Banks Square Airbox

I bought it from a member on here. They pop up from time to time. Maybe watch ebay too. I only had to wait about two weeks once I started actively looking for one.

    Wanted: Banks Square Airbox

Have you seen this thread? http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48021&highlight=banks+style+turbo Intake hat was a little hard to find and cost me $70, but thats probably a lot cheaper than buying stuff to cast your own. I don't mean to discourage ingenuity, but for me, this was...

Quick question re: coolant test strips

Back to page one... anybody know if good test strips are supposed to be white or already colored some?

    Wanted: Banks Square Airbox

Now THAT is cool. I looked into sandcasting my own. Got a buddy that is into it, but doesn't have his furnace going yet. I managed to do a job on mine that I'm pretty happy with, but sandcasting a custom hat would be nice.

Quick question re: coolant test strips

Just bought a bottle of 4106 test strips from Napa. The bottle says they don't expire until 9/12, but the strips inside are already slightly colored. I thought good ones were white in color until they've been dipped in the coolant, and thats when they start changing. Am I wrong?

    which IP

Those prices are way high. If you want the best pump available for our engines, and can afford to wait (you send in your pump or another core that you procure and it is rebuilt) pm user Agnem here on oilburners. He has a rebuilder that helps him produce Moose products and you'll here nothing...

    94 idit motor compression test

I read like 150 psi on all my trucks cylinders, but people here told me it wouldn't even start if thats all it had. And it starts well, -3 F was the coldest I've seen and it was only a few revolutions and it was off. I don't believe my comp tester, but it did at least tell me they were all the...

    I Made An Uh-Oh....

Wow, sorry to hear that. Sounds like it wasn't properly installed. When I yanked my transmission for the first time one of the lowest bolts wasn't even threaded in, it was just sitting there.

Wish you'd asked sooner. I got $12 for mine at the scrapyard... didn't figure anyone wanted one.

    1989 F350 crew cab 4x4 diesel

Nice truck. I'd be tempted if I was in the buying market. If anyone buys it and wants to get rid of the step bars, I'd be happy to take them off your hands... course thats not likely given its lifted, mine has a 3" body lift and I need steps for all my shorter than 6'3" passengers.

Grinding/Vibration at low speeds going around turns

I've been noticing a grinding/vibration (really can't hear it) feeling when at low speeds (1st, or 2nd gear) while turning (in a parking lot, turning at a stop sign). Its not too bad at all, but was going to ask just to see if anyone noticed something similar and figured out what was wrong.

    Road draft tube

Yes, I am quite sure it is clear and open. It is about a 4 foot long tube, 1 inch ID, no kinks or blockages (I have checked). I do think that for a RDT to work without something pulling a vacuum on it, its gonna have to be seriously huge. According to the laws of physics, I can create a...
