IP Wrench- cheap & almost easy

By ear, no meter currently handy.. I'm due to make a trip south to visit Diesel JD & gonecrazyi soon anyway so I'll get JD to time it properly then. The pump was perfectly aligned with the factory notch when I popped the hood yesterday, so I pulled it over .045" and locked it down. It runs a lot...

IP Wrench- cheap & almost easy

LOL Couldn't resist yankin' your chain, man:D I'm sure they were tight, but now they're REALLY tight! Did you locate another motor? This coming Saturday we're going to head out to the property to do some dirt work- unless something changes...

IP Wrench- cheap & almost easy

Steve- I didn't mess with the offset at all, it's completely Craftsman stock. BUT- I will say that if I made another one, it would be with a NON-offset wrench, as the offset causes an interference with the radiator hose causing you to have to take short rotations before re-placement.

IP Wrench- cheap & almost easy

Well, after spending the best part of the weekend working on my daughters car, I was finally able to spend a little time on Henry. After running incredibly strong immediately after installing the Baby Moose, the performance slowly degraded. I thought it was solely the viscosity difference with...

    ZD9 WMO Fuel Heater

I finally ended up going to ~40% diesel in the mix and that helped tremendously, so did fixing my timing! MUDKICKR i have had an idea for a tank heater for a while, but havent tried it out yet. ive been thinking about running my exhaust through it. what i mean by that building a tank to fit...

    ZD9 WMO Fuel Heater

only partially/poorly- if you look closely at the first photo you can just make out the hexagonal formed copper connector that has 10ga. stranded wire bak to the neg. side of the passenger battery. The pos side has a custom made connector you can see pressed onto the bullet end and is fused and...

    zf 5 question

Hey BigRig- What do you attribute that to? I'll be honest and tell that as far as downshifting goes, I probably don't do as much as some folks.. Usually I just slip it into neutral and coast.. Anyway, when I got my truck there was heavy gear oil in it and shifts were slow and required more...

    zf 5 question

When I first got my truck I used to use a little blip of throttle between 1st & 2nd to smooth things along, or do as Goofy Exponent suggests and hold a little pressure on the shifter up against 2nd and let it slide in (using clutch also) at its own pace. These days I rarely use 1st at all unless...

    Head stuff

Russ, Excellent photos- really clears up a couple of mysteries for me. I recently acquired a set of 7.3 turbo heads and was thinking about porting them, but then started wondering if it was actually worthwhile to do so. I'm slowly gathering parts to turbo Henry, and was curious as to how an...

    Home made return line kit

Not everyone here is from an identical socio-economic background. Usually folks on this board seem to be cognizant of that fact and temper their responses accordingly. That being said, there have been a few noteworthy exceptions lately...;Really

    I have to vent!

I never shed a tear when the old man died, seems like he was always more disappointed in me than anything else. Want Matthias to miss you when your gone? Then go listen to him play for a while, tell him how he has improved over the last year, put your arm around his neck and say "come on son...

    gauges

Heath- Serious question here, no sarcasm implied or intended. If these motors in our trucks are capable of damn near self destructing pulling a 19' runabout up a mild hill on the way to the lake, why didn't Ford include a pyro on the dash? Surely they anticipated the the normal uses these...

    gauges

Mechanical oil pressure. Mechanical water temperature. Vacuum. Unless you've been dinkin around with your fuel screw & towing 15k lb. trailers up hills, I find it kinda unlikely that you'll need a pyrometer right now. That having been said- if you do dink around with your fuel screw & tow 15k...

    Crazy idea...diesel in a 96 Isuzu Trooper

JD, if you do decide on a Mercedes, this one here- OM617.952 turbo diesel (circa1982) has the distinction of being known as the most bullet proof engine Mercedes ever came out with. Solid lifters (pull valve cover off and adjust every 20,000 or so) cast iron block AND head... Sorta like the 7.3...
