    Just saved myself hours...

I got the top of the motor off and was vacuuming out the valley pan and the head with the cover off. Looking at the broken head bolt that was causing this headache, I figured what the hell and try and get some needle nose pliers on it and see if I could turn it. It came out easier than any bolt...

E4od not shifting and no tachometer... not sure what to try next

If the batteries aren't holding a charge for long, you're bleeding voltage out somewhere.

E4od not shifting and no tachometer... not sure what to try next

Pull that heat shield when you can and check that plug. It has to be super clean. If you can blow out the plug on the trans it would help.

    HP rating

I wish it was that easy. I don't have deep pockets, so I have to pick and choose the essential things before doing add ons. What I REALLY want is a solid front axle ,4x4 E4OD and transfer case for my '91 F350. Then I would be set for pretty much forever. Then I could screw around with other...

    HP rating

Thanks for the reply Wes. I'm going to give my 7.3 pump a shot in the 6.9. I was worried about the truck becoming a smokin dog.

    HP rating

I was thinking the same thing. I have a pump off my '91 7.3 that's still in good shape. I was wondering how it would work on my'87 6.9 project. If it smoked a bit, maybe turn it down a flat? Wes posted above that it would have some positive effect on the truck. Maybe Wes can chime in a little...

    HP rating

Where can you find the HP rating on your motor? There are no stickers on the valve covers. From what I read , there are 3 different ratings, 155,165,185. This is for my '87 6.9. My pump is a DB2829 4746. Thanks

    Surprise under valve cover

the ends are clean. No sign of copper. The indent side was in the motor on all of them.

    Surprise under valve cover

I don't know much of the history of this motor. A new block and everything swapped over.

    Surprise under valve cover

Neither end is brass. But the ends that I thought had holes were only indents. Maybe they are there so you know to put that end down.

    Surprise under valve cover

The one end of these pushrods have small hole in the side near the bottom. When I pulled them out, from what I seen the small side hole was towrds the bottom. Am I going to be able to pull this head over that broken bolt?

    Surprise under valve cover

When I got the truck running for the first time in 6 years, I noticed some bubbling at the corner of the drivers side head. Time to re-torque. Of course it can't be that simple. Effin broken headbolt. Also 2 of the pushrods are out of round on the top, you can see in the pics. The motor...

    fuel gauge test

Thanks guys. Will look at it Monday.

    fuel gauge test

Hey all, is there any way to test the fuel gauge to see if it works without pulling the cluster? On the '87 the needle is pinned above full for both tanks. No movement when switched. I know the mid tank is not full. Fuses are good all around. Probably something easy, but I never had to do a fix...

Newbie with '84 6.9 IDI with issues

You better find a cover for the glow plug controller. You bang into that the wrong way you're gonna be doing some welding. Good luck with the truck. You came to the right place for sure.

    '87 project- next round.

The truck has been sitting for years, and I got it running. It surges a little bit while idling, and when you give it throttle, it doesn't respond till the arm is pulled three quarters of the way back. Then when I let the throttle go, it dies. There is hardly any pedal, and when it gets to the...

    '87 project- next round.

One thing that I just thought about that I don't remember seeing before. This truck has cruise control. I don't remember seeing a c6 with cruise. I won't be adjusting anything while it's running.

    '87 project- next round.

I appreciate the response Wes. I don't trust myself to adjust the pump while it's running, so no worries there. I just want to try what I can before paying for a pump. The pump on the '87 has to be the original. The top cover is still wired down with an old seal. If there is something easy to...

    '87 project- next round.

I looked around and found a few threads on tuning the pump. Lots of pages, but I need some pics to comprehend what I need to do. I took a few pics of a pump I took out of my 7.3. The large nut I'm pointing with the pencil is the governor nut? And the bolt on the linkage is the idle, correct...
