    return lines left me stranded

    You got the late-model IDI kit. Designed to be used with 1/4" fuel lines. Earlier models used the smaller 3/16" barb-on-center caps. Either way, it doesn't make much difference, as long as your hoses are correct. Just needs to allow for flow.

    Leaking port on my injection pump can I fix? Or rebuild?

    You can get a DB2 reseal kit for like $20 I think? And replacing that isn't hard at all. You might try tightening the nut there just a hair and see if it stops... I've never seen them leak there. Usually it's from the side cover or weep-hole on the bottom.

    Water pump seal & plain water coolant?

    It'll be fine. Just not long-term.

    return lines left me stranded

    You probably need to replace the lift pump. Bleeding should not take that long. Also, the lift pump should be blocking drainback, but doesn't when the check-valves inside are shot.

    return lines left me stranded

    None of the aftermarket kits I've seen come with single-stubs. So just make a block-off plug or JB weld it shut.

    Shower head/ fuel tank share

    If you need to, take that original sending unit and clean it up. Use some sand paper and paper towels and just clean off the rust. Block one end of the pickup pipe and pressurize it with compressed air - check for leaks. (the return line basically does not matter, as long as the fuel doesn't...

    Shower head/ fuel tank share

    Pretty sure someone was running something not-diesel in that rear tank. Possibly WMO or WVO. I've never seen diesel leave crud behind - it's a solvent!

    Never before seen mess

    A number of months ago, I put a mechanical fuel pressure gauge on my '93, mounted to the cowl so I could see it when driving. . At the time, it had my RD2-110 IP on it. So, oversized pump etc. Put the fuel gauge on the output side of the fuel filter. This setup had a stock mechanical lift pump...

    One piece window

    Hey... Just put ear plugs in, crank a big sound system to 11... and you won't even notice the wind noise(or motor noise, or truck falling apart under you...)

    Worlds FASTEST shipping on 7.3L I.D.I. N/A-G.R. STARTER

    A couple of things to point out: One, as you can see, 2.5kW(on the DB and cheap clones) isn't really a "high torque" rating. It's pretty standard/lower-end. Two... It works just fine. Seriously. The two bottom-of-the-barrel 2.5kW starters were more than enough to crank an IDI very quickly, on a...

    7.3 Banks turbo drivetrain in SW Missouri

    Price is too high and it's an early(non-wastegated) kit. Not particularly valuable IMHO.

    Never before seen mess

    Mainly because if you can keep the system primed, the IP will pull fuel just fine. Those little solid state pumps really can't keep up with an IDI at full throttle, but the IP can pull fuel if it has to... it just screws with timing. If it still had the mechanical lift pump, even better...

    Who says you need to replace nylon drain plug washers?!

    <_< My drain plugs look similar to that. As long as it doesn't noticeably leak*, send it! (*When your front main and rear main both leak, it's pretty hard to tell if the drain plug is leaking. Might be a good idea to fix thst someday... But at least I don't need to worry about rust!)

    High altitude N/A performance.

    If it's a wastegated sidewinder, yes. Like I said, I've had much better performance and quicker spool out of them. Top end is similar, but the Banks does better mid-range. The factory turbo setups can be improved though - WW2 will give it a bit better spool and PSI; Typ4 can fix the crushed...

    Worlds FASTEST shipping on 7.3L I.D.I. N/A-G.R. STARTER

    I'm just going to point out that this is a Denso-clone starter, from china and the like. There's nothing wrong with the design - it's a proven, good design. It's just that DB doesn't have anything special there. Just, as far as I can tell, the same basic starter that is everywhere on Ebay. Like...

    Where's the boost?

    Personal experience says that they are right...ish. 0 psi or 5 psi is fine for running. 5 psi at idle, 0 at WOT... not so much. The varying pressure changes your timing(lower pressures ends up retarding it a bit). If you have a consistent pressure(whatever it may be), you can adjust the base...

    Where's the boost?

    I'm very doubtful you can have an IP worn enough to not provide higher end performance/fueling, while still being startable. Realistically, the most leakage is going to happen at hot startup, so if the truck starts, it's not going to be worn that way. It's much more likely you: 1. have a fuel...

    Where's the boost?

    I have played around with it, and what it actually does is limit metering valve travel - how much "total fuel" can be pushed when the governor/pedal requests "more fuel". I found it to have a much bigger limiting impact at the upper end - cutting peak fueling off drastically. With a Banks kit...

    High altitude N/A performance.

    Basically, if you are planning on buying new, totally go for the R&D. No questions. If you are like me and can't afford a new kit, well... Banks, ATS and Hypermax kits are "out there", on rigs and in JYs. They are available relatively cheap usually, too.

    My idi overhaul

    Yeah, pretty much. I once ran an experimental set of "double-thickness" head gaskets(so another 1/16" or so). Man, that thing did not want to start without a ton of timing advance. It also had little power down low, until the boost kicked in, then it ran fine. Also, it was the only IDI I've...

    BEST advice for long sitting 7.3L IDI non turbo re-start, first cold start?

    I've pulled multiple IDIs out of the weeds. What I do is: 1. Check the oil. Add if required, make sure it's not full of water. 2. Make sure she's got coolant in her. 3. Put some good batteries in and turn key on. If the glow plugs don't cycle right(99% chance for me), leave the key on(so the GPs...

    ZF5 swap questions

    I totally believe you should do the head gaskets on whatever motor you put in, assuming you have time. You'll need new head gaskets and a new valley pan gasket to do this. It's one of those things where the gaskets get old after many years, and putting more strain on them(less about the turbo...

    Dana D50 TTB Part Number Confusion

    Google says: https://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-hardcore-tech/642891-front-axles-dana-50-vs-60-a-4.html#post9578672 Quite a bit should cross. The dana 50 axle weight rating is the same, yes - I've always ordered my parts by 4600lb axle.

    Front cover removal

    Exactly. Oil leaks are not going to be head gaskets - there's no oil pressure going through the gasket(just drain holes). You'd be leaking coolant well before you ever weep oil. Valve covers are a very common leak spot. Need to be replaced every dozen or so years.

    High altitude N/A performance.

    I installed a Banks Sidewinder kit on my '88 in a weekend, with hand tools. At the time, I had no impact wrenches or other cool stuff. It's really not a big deal - follow the instructions, put it together. The only interesting bit is that there is a specific spot on the cab pinch weld, above the...
