    winch mounting ideas needed

Not entirely, if the guy has a friend with the requisite fab skills, maybe said friend could be plied with liquid libations in payment for the work. :dunno :rotflmao :sly

good compression on all 8 cylinders, only runs on 4?

Until you said you had it figured, I'd have agreed on the firing order issue, as I heard the 351 Windsors and the 302 ran different orders, and if you got the wrong cam, well. . . . But it's fixed, so good. :-)

    Need ideas on oil cooler

I can't really make commentary for the other guys, but in my experience, 'over-tightening' can ALWAYS be a problem, I've snapped the heads off 1/2 in shank grade 5 bolts with a combination wrench and didn't think I was being 'too hard', so maybe. . . .:dunno

    winch mounting ideas needed

if you do it right, it can look pretty 'factory' as the factory did build LOTS of the L8000 Class 8 trucks with the forward bumpers for stuff like the hydraulics to run stuff like cement mixer drums. ;Sweet

    winch mounting ideas needed

Never done exactly what you're doing there, but maybe you could push the front bumper forward, fab up a bracket the mount it behind your license plate, right between your frame rails, of course you are limited by that gap, and we don't know what size winch you want, so. . . . :dunno

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

Like a crappy little town in the middle of nowhere about 30 miles East of Worthington called Jackson. cookoo I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking along my lines. Those that keep extolling the virtues of the 'high quality' stuff never really seem to wrap their minds around the concept...

Faults in the IDI engine design?

That are the real design flaws or weaknesses that are inherent in the IDI engines? P.S. - Sorry about this thread being similar to another thread I created earlier, the info gathered there there is helpful, but I would really like to know the flaws on these beasts, so where...

Hey, where do you find tires for your little tractor? Sorry to temporarily hijack the thread. :dunno

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

Here's the stuff mentioned : http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dtc-772-32520/overview/ There are several makes and sizes and brands, but that's the basic idea being discussed. ;Sweet

89 CC build thread Frame off resto!! - Bad Idea

If it hasn't been mentioned before, I'll be the first, if it has, I'm sorry to reiterate the point. When you were painting your dash/trim panels and if the color was darker or 'faded out' some, you need to use a primer, most likely white to cover the dark color, then put your new color...

Anyone know who built/documented this project?

http://s818.photobucket.com/user/NMB2/media/OBS%20CrewCab%20DRW/IMG_2794.jpg.html I like the way he did this, and it inspires my own ideas. :sly

    'Bulletproofing' an IDI?

Well thank you guys for your input, but why the 5.13 ratio over like a 3.55? I mean I know the extra weight will need extra 'umph' but that seems awfully high( or low, I can't remember the term). :dunno

    'Bulletproofing' an IDI?

I've been thinking that 60-65 is fast enough, and I'm thinking of pulling a gooseneck pulling up-to around 15-18,000lbs with it. ;Sweet One of my plans is to maybe do a trans swap to a newer 5 or six speed overdrive unit too. :sly

    'Bulletproofing' an IDI?

I've thought of adding a main girdle to reinforce the bottom, but what can be done to prevent head cracking and destroying head gaskets, other than keeping the boost and EGT's down?

    'Bulletproofing' an IDI?

Aiming near say 200-215HP and maybe around 450tq if possible, but the real truth is I would sacrifice power for mileage and durability, but only to a point. cookoo

    'Bulletproofing' an IDI?

I have a 1984 F350 RC-DRW with a 4-speed and the Sterling. I want to build it for towing and power, but as I'm often very 'gorilla-ish' in my driving, the truck needs to be build as 'failureproof' as possible. What can and or should be done to make the old mule solid as a rock?

What signs to look for to determine actual miles?

Not to sound like a dick, but the pedals, pedalpads, dash-pad and seats and that are EASILY obtainable in the aftermarket; to a guy interested in getting top dollar for his used truck might consider spending the dough to repair those defects and 'fudge' the odometer, and tryto convince you it's...

    Transmission extension housing question

In a former life,I worked at a local U.B.C. and oneof the company trucks used for deliveries and that was a '97 F350 Dually with a flatbed and a 351 Windsor/5-speed. The light duty trucks( F150) are the only ones that had the body change in '97, I think the rest of the line didn't get changed...

    Pushrod dimensions?

Yes, 4130( Chrome-moly) is a stronger material, but I think your best bet in using it wouldn't be in using it for that aspect, it's substantially lighter than 'mild steel', and as such, there would be less parasitic losses because of moving that extra mass around in the engine. Though...

    Firewall cracking

Not saying it does, I just believe if a little is good, then more MUST be better in terms of strengthening parts the factory made too weak.

    Pushrod dimensions?

Ah, I read it wrong. Then if you're worried, use your old ones, and then use air-quenched steel drill rod, that'd be my choice, then bore the ol tube out on a lathe.

    Pushrod dimensions?

If you're having custom springs made, you'll need to know the wire diameter, the compressive strength of the wire, the inner and outer diameters, the height of the spring compressed, the height of the spring uncompressed; and all that is in addition to the info about the pushrods. -Of...
