ok, ill be diving into this over the weekend. parts came in! i got the chunk of valve out of the head. only the valve was damaged, the seat is in remarkably good shape. the new valve should seat no problem. anyway, i dont have service manuals... can someone tell me the cylinder head...

    No compression on #7

ok! well its time to resurrect this thread, i finally had a chance to work on the thing. my 4 month old daughter keep me busy! i took off the rocker arm on the #7 exhaust and the valvespring was loose. the spring wasnt broken. that could only mean 1 thing, the bottom of the valve was...

    No compression on #7

allrighty... with the alt out of the way and some peening of the valve cover corner, its off. i checked the springs with a mirror, and by feeling them, but nothing seems out of the ordinary. whats my next step? crank it over? pull the head? how much does one of those weigh?! that should...

    No compression on #7

ok.. i got the valve cover bolts off.. what's the easiest way to get it out of there????? :frustrate there's a plastic housing on the heater core box that i think is for AC ( my ac is dead) that im thinking of ripping off. the only other option seems to be removing the injectors and lines from...

    No compression on #7

thanks for the tips. yea, under the valve cover would be the 1st place to look. This all happened when i was driving it on the highway, ~60mph and taking an exit, the noise seemed to come on suddenly. there was a sharp tapping coming from the pass side, it could be the pushrod bangin on the...

    No compression on #7

I dropped off my '88 f250 at a diesel shop here in Allentown PA (fuelinjection.net) to get tuned up, because of a shake at idle and grey smoke on acceleration. They just called back with my worst fears, no compression on #7. They dont think it's valve related, either. im going to bring it...

    Electric issues

ok, changing the regulator didnt fix it. in fact, i switched to a 3G taurus alternator so now i have a little more juice than before. i had it running, and when the voltage would drop, i could hear a click. so i shut it off, and turned the key back on but didnt start. after the wts light...

    Electric issues

oops! fixed :D (the post, not the truck) i think i have another regulator in the garage, i can swap it to try. the batteries never went totally dead, just dead enough not to turn the motor at 20 deg F

    Electric issues

hey all.. i had a little scare today on the way to/from work. my volt gauge would flutter from ~13 volts to the red 8v like something was shorted out intermittently.. it didnt seem to be related to speed or bumps or anything. also, the radio & headlights would dim at the same time. i...

    Intermitent pull to the right

i recently found my short tie rod on the driver side would "flop" forward and backward, changing its length slightly as the steering passed center. i loosened one side of the adjusting sleeve and turned the tie rod ends just a bit to keep them from "flopping" but not so much as to cause them to...

    Junkyard etiquette

here in PA you cant even get a gas tank.. there must be some law. they drill a big hole in them, leave the fuel pump/pickup/sender in the backseat, and remove and crush the tanks. at least they leave the sender.

    factory tachometer dead!

well i finally got to taking out the sensor.. checked it with an ohmmeter, it checks out ok. 2500 ohms sensing nothing, goes to 0 waving it very close to steel. i guess im looking at wiring now, or should i just assume the factory gauge is kaput?
