You should be able to get some rebuilt heads cheaper than that, but don't go too cheap. I got some with a 6 month warranty and a month 7 they dropped two valves.
Two or 3 years ago I checked International here in Dallas. They still had the 7.3 turbos for about $8000
You should be able to put a resistor in series with the glow plugs to lower the amperage. But i haven't got a clue as to how to pick the right sized resistor.
I use a manual button for my glow plugs.
On cold days I'll press for 8 seconds. Lift off and give the engine 5~10 seconds to suck the...
Hopefully your fan nut comes off easy.
If not, check this thread.

It shows a simple tool that I had to make the last time I changed a pump
I've run an electric fuel pump by carrier for years, but it finally died. I wasn't able to get a replacement through carrier but found a Chinese knock off. It doesn't hold a candle to the carrier pump and now it's sprung a leak.
After checking some forums, I've picked up a Holley 97 GPH RED®...
Side note, l've also had a 6.9 with the same water separator. It started leaking the 1st time i drained it.
Instead of bypassing it, I tapped the drain hole and screwed in a radiator drain ****.
I've got an old Uhaul with a 7.3.
It had gotten slower and then the electric fuel pump died.
Replaced the pump and still couldn't gain speed until I replaced the fuel filter. The clogged filter is probably what killed the pump.
Anyway, I'd start by replacing your filter.
Thanks snicklas.
My biggest worry was that by connecting the wts light the the same terminal as the new button in the cab, you'd be making a 2nd path to ground and have constant power to the glow plugs.
So I got under the hood with a voltage tester and some jumper wire to figure things out. I...
Finally an update and questions.
I got one of Wes's kits for a turbo and moved the GPC. Good thing too, 2 of the wires were pressed tight to the oil fitting for the turbo and had grounded. I also had to make my own bracket for the GPC.
I decided to do a GPC bypass and followed the directions...
I've never bothered removing one.
I use those kits where you tap into the heater hose. It can take a while if you have a lot of rust. But seems worth it to me.
I do a final drain after the tap water flush, radiator, lower hose and engine drain plug. Button her up, add coolant and top off with...
I like the idea of the provent, but it looks like the hose size is only about 1/2 inch while I believe the cdr is 1 inch.
Is 1/2 inch going to provide enough flow?
Also I've seen videos saying that you don't want to route the fluids back to the engine because they contain some nasty things. I'd...
Thanks Phillip1
Looking at the two harnesses offered has me wondering.
I know that the engine I put in is a 94 idi and i thought it was a factory turbo.
It has the square intake and the cdr on the drivers side valve cover. But the glowplug controller is on the back of the engine, behind were a...
