Sloooow crank, tried everything!
i also recommend keep looking at your grounds/wires. by-passing with jumper cables isn't reliable, i have tried the same with a 6.9 in a 84 F350 that was a wiring disaster. as if to prove this point, my current 6.9 in a E350 didn't properly crank until i checked, cleaned and re-tightend all the...- flexneck

ok, just did another round of sidewalk wrenching - bled all the injector lines, checked the glowplugs (they come on, red hot and all) - i do have white smoke at the pipe when i crank it, and it *nearly* fired a few times (with and without ether). however, no real start. but, what i did notice is...- flexneck

i assume you mean measuring the resistance of the individual plug by the way of ohms? i have done that too, but i am at a point where i have removed each plug, connected it to its own wire, grounded it and made sure it actually gets hot. so, again, i am convinced that my glowplugs are working as...- flexneck

glowplugs are manual, so they stay on as long as i want. (never more than 15 secs at a time, i have learned this the hard way, a few times in a row.) i have tested each and every individual plug on its own wire, with all the other ones connected, and each and every one is fine. block...- flexneck

dude, the thing on the left is most certainly your starter switch. the gizmo you so neatly circled is the GP relay, yes. the controller will be on the back of the engine somewhere. i don't know where it is for sure, as my truck didn't have one anymore by the time i got it. but if you have a...- flexneck

It Lives - for now... so the truck seems to be healed. it took a set of Wellman dual coils, presto, truck starts, every day, not just once, after cooking the GP's. and heres why: the controller on the 6.9 is a "fast glow" design from back in the day. this means it just hits the GP's with...- flexneck

Thanks for the quick replies - currently i am too broke to buy more gp's, but i will make sure i save up for some Berus. Agnem: my gp bypass is a hot wire from a switch on the dash to the relay - the pink wire was turning on the gp's as soon as the engine was running and that was what cooked my...- flexneck

Hi folks, a million thanks for the concise fuel-system-bleed-manual. it worked great, i also capped the return line from the fuel-filter and that certainly made fuel flow instantaneous. maybe one day i will make an effort and find the air-leak... but meanwhile it seems that my glow-plugs are...- flexneck
