From my experience stock trannys can last awhile .The 94 IDI Turbo I had was a daily puller of trailers ranging from 1k up to 13k.The only thing I did was drain pan every 12,000 miles with every second drain I would drop pan and change filter. Truck was stock except for a HUGE trans cooler...
I got a set of lo profile 55w backup lite from the auto parts store .I installed them on the hitch so they were tucked up out of the way, yet still got good coverage.This way I didn't have to worry about them getting banged up or drug off the bumper.
