    My oil analysis isn't good

Hi, I just got my latest report from Blackstone. It's attached. Last time they thought there might be coolant in my sample. Unfortunately this time they're sure. The problem appears to have begun some time after I changed the water pump last year. I did coat the four bolts that pass...

7.3 IDI Oil Cooler Rear Header

Distilled water conducts electricity, albeit poorly; but that's probably irrelevant unless you're running straight water: I'd imagine antifreeze has enough ions to make the mix plenty conductive.

7.3 IDI Oil Cooler Rear Header

Yeah, cavitation erosion in diesel engines affects the cylinder water jackets. It's caused by the immense pressure spike when the fuel ignites. Piston slap also contributes, which might help explain why some engines / cylinders are more vulnerable than others. A related, but different...

    What coolant should i use?

Well, I need a new radiator anyway. It had an intimate encounter with the fan while I was changing the water pump. I patched it up but it still seeps a bit. Besides that the tubes are full of deposits. The PO probably used tap water. DEX-COOL, as you probably know, causes trouble even...

    What coolant should i use?

FWIW I'm running Final Charge Global, which I think is similar to Cat ELC, and I haven't had any problems. Time will tell. I heard about the incompatibility with first generation PSDs. They say it's the copper injector cups, but Final Charge Global is supposed to protect brass and copper. So...

    FS: 1985 F-350 C & C Flatbed 6.9l IDI T19 2WD DRW

If anyone is interested, now would be the time. Next week she is off to the boneyard. It pains me to do it, but I need the money.

    7.3 with a terrible idle

Loosen the fuel line flare nut at each injector, just enough to relieve some pressure and stop the injector from firing, one at a time while the engine is running. Watch for one or more that doesn't cause a drop in RPM's and increased roughness.

    FS: 1985 F-350 C & C Flatbed 6.9l IDI T19 2WD DRW

Hi! Money has been scarce lately so I need to sell my other truck. Once upon a time it had a tilt bed, but the hydraulics were removed and the bed fixed in place by a previous owner. The odometer stands at 15,304; I think it's safe to say it has rolled over at least once. The Good...

I like that one too, and it's geographically closest to me. It has spent a few years in MN though. I wonder how it has held up to all the salt. Also, with 165+ on a 7.3, what are the odds of being bitten by the block worm?

You're right, of course. That said, I really don't need a crew / extended cab or DRW. Four-wheel drive would be nice. Overdrive would be great, but isn't the ZF5 a weaker transmission than the T19? I'd really like that turbo; but DRW, for my purposes, just equals worse fuel economy and two...

I hear you, $5,000 is rather a lot. What would you say it's actually worth? Unfortunately, even given a search radius that covers all 48 contiguous states, I haven't seen anything cheaper that meets my requirements: It must be an IDI. It must have a manual transmission. It must be rust...

Hi everyone! I'm considering buying this 1987 F-250. What are your thoughts? Does anyone see any obvious problems or red flags? Thanks.

"How to turn plastic waste into diesel fuel cheaply"

Oh, absolutely: time is the devourer of all things. As long as your fuel savings are more than the costs of repairing or replacing your equipment, it's all good. I'm definitely going to do the WMO thing as soon as I can come up with the funds. Unfortunately, right now I need to replace my...

"How to turn plastic waste into diesel fuel cheaply"

I'm self-employed and I definitely have more time than money. I'd love to build one of these things, but right now I can't even scrape together the funds for a working WMO setup. Well, that, and I guess all the talk of "abrasive ash" has me a bit scared.
