    Checking valve train

I'm not sure what I don't get? I already did that test 2 different times as a matter of fact. The only reason I pointed out that I asked other techs. was so assure you I'm not pulling these theorys out of my ass.

    Checking valve train

So I talk with a couple of techs. I know and the general census is lifters cannot be tested. You can take them apart an look but that's it as far as looking for a bad lifter. Everyone is saying just replace them while I'm there but I'm tired of replacing things "while I'm there". What are...

    Knock Knock

So a little update and some questions. I decided to pull the intake and inspect the lifters and cam (what I could see of the cam while still in the block). I didn't find anything out of the ordinary. I did talk with my machinist some more and asked him some more detailed questions about...

    Checking valve train

So I decided to strip my 7.3 down again to try and find out what is causing my thud in the intake and occasional knock. I have already replaced the entire fuel system and had the heads rebuilt. I thought I should check everything in the valve train before tearing the heads back off. Currently...

    My Adventures in CHUFFland....

I'm in the same boat as I'm about ready to pull my intake again to check the lifters and cam. I just don't see there being anything else to check because the problem has to be valve train related. For what its worth the machinist that did my head work said he has seen idi's come in with intake...

    My Adventures in CHUFFland....

Could the bad injector cause the miss you talked about? Now without hearing the chuff sound I couldn't really say what I thought it could be. Maybe you have a couple of smaller problems which together make it seem like you have a big problem? It's odd that your precups are cracked now could...

    Knock Knock

Yes the clatter goes away. The noise isn't there when its warmed up. I have removed the VCs to take a look I don't see or hear anything out of the ordinary. Could the noise be a bad cdr valve?

    Knock Knock

I planned on calling Mel today. For what its worth it'll make the same noise with the air filter off. It doesn't sound right but not sure there's anything wrong in the engine. That's why I'm asking you guys.

    Interesting diesels on CL today.

I would like to see the way they set up the suspension on the front axle. Mainly what type of coil springs did he use

    Knock Knock

I agree but something just doesn't seem right. Fixing the guides did improve things but I'm starting to think that it could be a lifter. If the engine stops with pressure on the bad lifter it would bleed down and then on start up take a beating until oil pressure built up. That doesn't...

    Knock Knock

How does everyone feel about used lifters I saw some on fleabay and thought about trying them. The ones I saw were the needle bearing type.

    Knock Knock

Yes the heads were re-surfaced I found a thread about valve depth after I had reinstalled the heads. The machinist I had do the work has done many idi rebuilds so I think were ok. When I torqued down the rockers i had the crankshaft turned to the correct position. I have to admit I wish I...

    Knock Knock

So I wanted to update this thread and ask a couple more questions. I decided to pull the heads and check for bad guides. Sure enough I had 4 bad guides all of them on the exhaust side. I have all new guides put in and new springs. I bolt the thing back together and while trying to prime the...

    Knock Knock

At Hammerdown, So I guess the question would be, is the burnt oil from a bad valve guide or the PO not keeping up on his maintenance At Gary, I have just put a cleaner in the crankcase yesterday. I couldn't find Auto RX locally so I went with a different product, we'll see if it works...
