Just wondering out loud (sorry for the hijack!), but I have access to a couple of very low mileage Allison AT545 4-speed autos (at a decent price) and have heard the SAE pattern may lend well to installing behind a binder block. Anyone have info to dispute/confirm this?- Caver Dave

Mel, That does take a bit of the unknown out of the equation. A couple of questions though... 1- Is it a given that the injectors should be replaced wholesale? IMO, the truck runs great (until the issues start after 30-45 minutes), so I really have no reason to suspect any problems with...- Caver Dave

Clutch question for Tanya...
I skipped the plastic replacement and made one from an oilite bronze bushing... honed the ID to fit snuggly over the pin.... greased it up (****), drilled the pin, used a bronze washer (original nylon washer didn't last long) and put a cotter pin thru the hole I drilled. Took about 1 hour total...- Caver Dave

I take it your not a proponent of Diesel Care & Performance?:confused: Seems everything I've read indicate either the IP works fine out of the box or it takes 2-3 tries to get a good rebuild. Also, if possible, could I run a "turbo" IP and simple cut the fuel back a little? Or do they put so...- Caver Dave

Well, after a couple of filter changes, dang near 2 gallons DieselKleen, and triple checking the lift pump... I'm ready to pay the piper. Brief history: Swapped out both tanks (holes), large qty. of H2O in filter (no light)... won't return to idle, but otherwise runs great for 30 mins, then...- Caver Dave

Sorry to bring this back up, but... I got to thinking about it a bit more yesterday (pulled an "in parts" '64 CJ5 for a bud)... - The fuel filter has only been changed once... *IF* the water (still clueless where it came from! :mad: ) was still present after filter change, possibly the...- Caver Dave

Tested the lift pump today... 4-6# while cranking (pressure dropped immediately when cranking stopped) & 6oz. in 10 seconds of cranking... I guess that means it isn't the cheap(er) fix? :fan: :(- Caver Dave

Bless you Mel! (was hoping to you'd reply) Time frame... Early July found midship tank to be leaking (strap "isolator" gone, strap rubbing on tank). While I had the bed off to troubleshoot rear tank issues: - both tanks were replaced (absolutely *nothing* in either tank) - tank fittings...- Caver Dave

Front Tank Question
From my recent digging on the subject... Front (midship) tanks came in several flavors... 16 gallon steel = SWB 19 gallon steel = LWB 2x gallon PE = LWB? Rear tanks = 18 gallon steel for both lengths I wanna hear more about this 33gallon Bronco tank!... not that I know prepping...- Caver Dave
