Good question. Dunno. Just felt a good amount of heat coming from the area. Didn't touch it. None of the wires looked discolored or melted. Connections were tight.- banderso

Small update: Ran with paper towels around the fuel filter head and around the IP feed line. No leaks at all. Additionally, I've had two excellent starts using the block heater and one poor start without it. So, I'm still interested in the idea of pressurizing the fuel system to diagnose air...- banderso

Agreed, the hard line to the pump seems like the most likely suspect. But like I said, no visible leaks there. I'll be driving the truck a bit this weekend, so I'll wrap the connections in paper towels and check for any leakage after the drive. Like I said too, I've seen several comments that...- banderso

No smoke during cranking. When it does fire off I sometimes get a large plume and engine speed flares high. Batteries are a year or two old hold voltage well during long periods of sitting (for what little that's worth). Cables are all new heavy gauge a year or so ago. All connections were...- banderso

Final follow up on this issue in case some one find it by searching or something. Replaced the defective cap with one of my old ones, and now the truck fires up instantly after sitting for over a week. Problem solved. Thanks to everyone for the help.- banderso

I've continued have trouble with fuel leaking from the cylinder 1 cap and long crank times. Today I decided to try using one of my caps for cylinder 1. I pulled the new one off and noticed there's no hole to the center of it. That can't be right, can it?- banderso

Well, problem not solved. Hard start today. After driving, found that the cap on injector one had popped up again and I had a puddle of fuel at that injector. Pulled the cap off, o rings looked good. I put the new o rings on today. Turns out the bottom o ring on injector 1 was damaged. I had a suspicion that's where I'd find the problem. My best guess is that when I tried to re seat the cap after driving several hundred miles, the Vaseline was gone and the o ring tore. I'm glad it was a...- banderso

Walked outside to see my truck on fire last night.

Glad you caught it. I had a buddy who was in the middle of a remodel and no smoke detectors. He walked out to his attached garage in the middle of the night to admire his mustang, and saw smoke and flames. Just like you, he had some sort of internal short in the battery.
