Ok. went and looked at the camper again today. I got to look inside and talk to the owner, who i just found out is my uncles best friend.
I looked for water damage but found no evidence. But he says he covers the camper with a tarp and 2x4s making a canapy when not being used. It has only been used one weekend a year in the past 4 years. He says the heater,stove,sink, toilet,shower all work good. He does not know about the a/c or the fridge. Say he has not used them since he has owned it.
He also has the bar that goes under the frame for the hold down, the chains and turnbuckles. He is asking 1800. Says had quite a few calls since he put it out for sale last week. but when people hear about the price the loose interest. he seems to think it is worth the money due to price of new ones but it is a 19 year old unit. I couldnt see it being more than 5k new in 92, but i could be wrong.
I have been looking online and i haven found ANY slide ins for less than 1000 and those are from the 70's Any suggestions

From everthing you told us it's not worth 1800.
I think you could do alot better for that kind of money, just take your time, it's a buyers market right now.
A replacement fridg. will run $5-900, A/C another $500, so he's dreaming asking that much.
I find it hard to believe that people can own a camper and not know if everthing works.

x2! were in the camper business we buy and sell repo's and used aerolites. havnt messed with slide in's tho but to be 19 years old thats crazy in my opinion! be easier to pull a camper too a pop up sounds like what you need.

the pop up ones normally pull a higher price, but not not $1800 worth. I'd pass. Look on CL you can find them cheep.

You will pay a premium for a camper that does not have any water damage. I don't think they make campers that don't start leaking eventually, and if you do end up buying this one, the first thing you need to do is paint the roof with that thick white roof paint they sell at Lowe's.
I have a slide in I just re-did, and it's a lot of work. You will need to do something with your springs, I put helper springs on mine. We are going to use it some more, but I have already bought a little tow behind camper to replace the slide in. Why? Because when you get to the campground, you are stuck. The stock legs that come with these campers are too shaky to unload the camper off the truck and camp. So you have no way of sight-seeing unless you want to haul the truck and the camper around. That's why you see everyone with the big motorhomes pulling a vehicle behind them. A trailer is so convienent to unhitch and leave at the campsite.
Here's the one I rebuilt. It was a lot of work, so if you have the money, the one in good shape might be a better investment.

He did say it is a pop-up. Less cabinetry means less weight. I have a 9.5' Palomino Bronco pop-up and the sticker says 1600 as well. Never scaled it though. $1800 sounds like too much money for a fixer with some unknowns. Keep in mind though, pop-ups tend to go higher due to fewer of them on the market. If you don't NEED a pop-up, hard sides are cheaper.

franklin2 beat me to it. there handy because you can unhook it. i said a pop up because they dont put a hardly any wieght on your truck. most can be towed with an s10 or something like that and there very roomy to be what they are.

I really like the pop up due to the lightness, less wind drag,and less top weight

Yeah, they do have their advantages. My avatar is a pic of mine in Deadhorse Alaska (Prudhoe Bay). That whole trip benefited from the lower center of gravity

Center of gravity isn't that much of an issue when you got training wheels, big springs, and sway bars front and rear

I would assume that the refrigerator doesn't work. I would pass on it too.

Speaking of those fridges, what causes them to not work - do they leak the freon out, or what else?
